This car is a rare 1992 last specification Lotus Elan SE Turbo (slightly more powerful than the S2), in rare Black colour, with full perforated charcoal leather interior contrasting red carpets, benefiting from the later 6 position heater, anti-dive chassis and featuring a period Radio Cassette CD Changer.
This Elan is well known among the “Lotus Elan Central” group as "Jimbobs” Elan. The reason for its notoriety is the meticulous attention to detail Jamie (Jimbob) took while restoring this previously pampered from new concourse winning car, improving the car to his extreme OCD higher than factory built new spec. The cars rebuild diary is detailed on Lotus Elan Central Forum under “Projects Major” The rebuild even caught the attention of Mike Kimberely Ex Lotus CEO who commended the quality of the restoration. Sadly, Jamie passed away suddenly and did not finish the rebuild so I took on the challenge of finishing the car to his exacting standards. I have included in this advert a couple of photos to show the general excellent condition of the car prior to the rebuild including the car with its trophies on the windscreen in 1999. The Elan has Full Detailed Service History from new and since the rebuild has had zero road use.
The Elan has some upgrades utilising rare Federal specification 16 inch wheels, Peco stainless steel exhaust with the necessary waste gate porting for this exhaust. Samco coolant hoses. EBC Green Stuff Brake Pads. The car currently rides on NEW federal specification Springs which make the car ride a little higher however standard UK springs are available. I owned the car originally back in 1999 when it was already a concourse winner prior to Jamie commencing rebuilding the car in 2007.
The attention to detail cannot be overstated this car is potentially the best in the world of its type. I cannot list all the new parts used and the full attention to detail here so have briefly summarised and provided links to the LEC threads for more detail. If genuinely interested there are many more photographs of every aspect of the rebuild and folders full of bills.
In essence Jamie tried to build as near to a new car as possible utilising Lotus selling off NEW old stock components at unbelievable prices back in the mid/ late 2000s which was a major driving factor in how extensive the rebuild became. Throughout the rebuild all parts new and used were treated to extra attention, cleaning recoating and where applicable extra rust prevention applied. All finished parts are coated massively over and above standard factory specification. Also, where at all possible new stainless nuts, bolts, screws and fittings were used.
Original parts that remain untouched are the engine and gearbox which are excellent and needed no work as the servicing of them was meticulous throughout it 46000 miles however for cosmetic reasons a new oil sump was fitted. The hood and its seals are original and in excellent condition, with a clear rear window. New original hoods with original seals have not been available for a long time so it was judged best to keep the original untouched as the copy seals etc. would not have been an improvement. All the interior is original except the NEW red carpets, again it was deemed keeping the rare, perforated charcoal leather which was only used on the last Elan SEs manufactured was the best option and its condition is excellent.
This car would suit a collector or car show enthusiast and really needs to be seen to be fully appreciated. The car is truely absolutely stunning an absolute one off. A MUST! MUST!MUST! see car. Contact me if genuinely interested for more detail and there is a lot of detail went into this car.
