Description
The Appeal
In a time where the G-Wagon was untouched by the engineers at AMG, they were built for those who desired pure off-road ability with near unmatched reliability. The OM602 engine fitted in this Mercedes (which is only 8 years old) is generally acknowledged as one of the most reliable engines made yet - entirely capable of doing between 500, 000 to 1, 000, 000 miles without being rebuilt.
The G-Class of this era is almost incomparable to the current age - they now stand for luxury, performance, and just pure outrageousness. Gone are the days where these would be issued for some kind of government service - in the modern day they have become a status symbol of success.
This particular example is something quite special. It remains one of the only cab-and-a-half examples we have seen - the keeper states in fact you won’t find another one of these in the UK. Fitted with an expedition fuel tank, it’ll go a long way between refills and given the proven pedigree of the G-Class, you won’t be limited to just the well-known roads.

The Mechanics
2. 5-litre turbo diesel 5-cylinder OM602 engine
Complete engine rebuild around 8 years ago
6-speed gearbox including overdrive
Reportedly excellent mechanical health
The successor of the OM617 engine, the OM602 was a newly-developed turbo diesel engine from Mercedes, and proved to be an exceedingly reliable engine with vehicles exceeding 500, 000 or 1, 000, 000 miles. A proper powerhouse built for the long haul.
The vehicles engine has reportedly been rebuilt under the keepers ownership, some 8 years ago with all new OEM components, remaining in excellent health - it’s fair to say that an engine like this, if well maintained, would outlast just about any other. The engine is paired to a 7-speed gearbox including an overdrive, which allows the vehicle to cruise quite happily at 70mph while keeping the engine revs down around 2, 000.
The car (if we can even call it that) has been outfitted with a expedition fuel tank, and while we can’t say just how many miles you’ll cover with that, we’ve been told it’s quite a substantial number so not to leave you hunting for diesel in the middle of nowhere on your adventures.

Summary
If you’re on the hunt for a unique and versatile machine - you really don’t have to look much further than this. A one-of-a-kind G-Wagon with more capability than you could shake a stick at. The owner also states it is commercially registered, and may be an advantageous purchase for any business owner!
You more than likely won’t find another one of these, and if you do, it won’t be found easily! Don’t regret letting this slip through your fingers.

The Interior
Leather upholstery with plaid trim on the doors
Kenwood touch screen radio
Carpets replaced only 6 months ago
Original and functional switchgear and dials
The interior of this kitted out G-Wagon is a nice place to be. With lovely leather upholstery and some plaid door cards, it’s a cut above the rest of this era! The front seats appear to be in very nicely kept condition, no rips or tears are noticed and the leather looks supple and comfortable. Straight ahead of the driving position, the original steering wheel is well kept with only very gentle signs of use in the form of the usual sheen. The horn cover remains in nice condition with the Mercedes badge proud and central.
Behind the steering wheel all of the original gauges remain present, with the odometer showing a stunningly low mileage of 56, 901 miles. The remainder of the gauges remain in good working order as well as all of the surrounding switchgear both on the dash and on the steering column. Moving across the dashboard towards the centre console, a Kenwood touch screen stereo is present between the Battery meter and the boost gauge. This introduces some modern comforts into an otherwise barren cabin! All of the lower switchgear such as the air controls and light switch work as you would expect.
Floor carpets have recently been replaced and appear in fantastic shape as you would expect, and the headlining presents itself very nicely kept. Just behind the front seats remains the “half cab” storage area, lined with floor carpet and more of the lovely plaid material against the back wall. Vibe and Blaupunkt speakers appear fitted into the rear wall, providing a good musical experience for the occupants.

The Exterior
Silver metallic paintwork
Aluminium frame rear bed
Rust and corrosion free example
Fully restored under the current owner
For those both familiar and unfamiliar with G-Class vehicles, you wouldn’t be wrong in assuming this is a rather unique variant. Fitted with a truck bed in the rear with an aluminium box frame, it provides a whole new level of versatility!
At the front of the Mercedes, the paintwork appears to be in excellent condition with no blemishes to be seen. The black metal bullbars are also in excellent shape, the paintwork appears undamaged and no dings or dents can be found - the same can be said for the headlight covers. The headlamps themselves as well as the two front spotlights and lower lamps all remain functional and in great shape - fit for some proper offroading with this set-up!
Around to the side of the G-Class, the bodywork remains excellent with shut lines of factory fitment. Paintwork is in lovely order too from top to bottom, with the moulded trim across the doors and wings remaining in good condition. Even peering into the vehicle's inner arches reveals cleanliness and a complete absence of corrosion. All four wheels are well kept with only some very gentle hints of corrosion noticed on the inside of some of the punched holes, and all are shod in BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/ A with tons of tread remaining.
The rear half of the G-Wagon is where things get interesting - outfitted with a aluminium frame truck bed, it makes for some exciting new opportunities that otherwise wouldn't be possible with a conventional model. The frame itself is in wonderful condition with no dents or dings noticed in the aluminium, and fitted on each side are some extra storage compartments. The current keeper uses it on the odd occasion to ferry around motorcycles as a part of his restoration hobbies - we honestly couldn’t think of a cooler way to transport things than this!
