Description

Our treasured (for 10 years) original Porsche 924S. Registered on the 12th August 1986, with 5 former keepers and 74811 miles on the clock.
MOT with no advisories to 11th July 2025.
Runs and handles brilliantly.
Everything works.
Crystal Green with all brown interior, including Porsche scripted seats.
Bag for the removeable sunroof.
3 keys – 1 original plus 2 spares we had cut (I do seem to have the one for the glovebox but I’ll be 100% honest and say that I just tried it, we’ve never used it and I couldn’t get it to lock, I didn’t try very hard though, as I didn’t want to risk getting it jammed).
We’ve been the proud owners since 26th July 2014, purchased privately from a couple in Derbyshire, and there is plenty of paperwork from us and the previous owners, plus the first few stamps in the original book.
Between 1/ 12/ 2007 and 8/ 6/ 2013 there are just the two MOTs, one from 21/ 8/ 2007 (presumably all the previous owners left with the booklets for the auction) and one from that following summer in August 2008. This all ties in with the couple we bought it from having been told it had been sitting since then.
Between 8 June 2013 and 26 July 2014 there are several receipts, all from June 2013 showing it being serviced and having a new cam belt when the previous owners got the car.
We’ve kept him under a car port for the vast majority of the last decade. Serviced, repaired and MOTd by enthusiasts at our local independent garage. The following are the main things we’ve had done, over and above the usual necessities, including a new battery last Spring. The first thing I did was replace the stereo with a Blaupunkt Radio Cassette player – I don’t remember what it had, or even if it worked, I just didn’t want anything ‘digital’ to look at!
13/ 10/ 2015: Replaced Tailgate Release Cable & Struts
3/ 6/ 2016: Replaced Sunroof Seal
16/ 6/ 2020: Replaced Starter Motor & Heater Valve
20/ 5/ 2021: Replaced Rear Exhaust
12/ 7/ 2024: Replaced Centre Exhaust & Inner OSF Wing corrosion repaired
6/ 8/ 2024: New Fan Switch
The short list of things we kept meaning to do aren’t serious, cosmetically it wouldn’t take much to make him very smart: the main sticker along the back, the rubber ring round the boot keyhole, bumper clips, mud flaps, new heat seal under the bonnet. Something a bit strange has happened with the paintwork along the very front of the bonnet, not sure why, been like it a while. There are the usual minor cracks along the front of the dashboard.
Agreed Valuation for Insurance purposes £6, 500 (very recently assessed within the 924 Owners Club).
Photos are the ones I took for the valuation, plus lots more with this advert in mind, but it was a gloomy day, so the first and last snaps were taken on the sunny ‘Bomber County Run’ with the club. If you look closely, you might see some white marks along the bottom of the sills – they're nothing, just dust - I had rinsed him down quickly before setting off, and what you’re seeing there is just a bit of residue from the main reason we’re letting him go! :( We get to our house along half a mile of unadopted road, and two years ago Forestry England replaced the tarmac with crushed limestone. Now the potholes get filled but don’t stay filled for long and it’s horribly dusty – not good for the cars :(
My apologies that they're not higher spec photos, broadband here in the woods is very slow and I had a challenge uploading them at this size.
Thanks for looking :)The time has come, regrettably, after 10 happy years, for us to part with ‘His Knibs’. (The number plate inspired the name! Please forgive me for referring to the car as ‘he’ – I just can’t always bring myself to say ‘it’ ;)) This was my rebellion after buying the most modern car we’d ever had, because honestly, I just hated how ‘computery’ it was. I worked in IT Support and wanted a real car, not a computer on wheels! I vividly recall the day we test-drove this car. My husband was driving and just started grinning. He glanced at me and said “You’re going to love this!” He was right. And for the next year or two he was my daily drive. I grinned a lot! Then I changed jobs and our other car became more practical for me, so Giles got to use the Porka a lot more. Then, you know, life happens, jobs change, other cars come and go, and before I knew it, we were only taxing this beauty in the Summer, only using him for special occasions, Sunday drives, the Owners Club’s annual ‘Bomber County Run’. I’ve included a snap of my mileage record. The couple we bought it from only had it a year, a change of job was the reason for their sale. They’d purchased it from a farm sale, where it had been in a barn since 2008.
He deserves better! He wants to be driven and is a true practical classic, with just a couple of years to go before tax exemption.
This is from the era when they were made really well. Just the solid clunk of the door shutting makes me smile! These have the fully galvanised body, so were far less prone to rust than ever before. Despite feeling very real, solid and retro, it has all mod cons in the form of electric windows and mirrors, electric boot release and electric sunroof. The S has the 2. 5 litre all alloy 944 engine, producing 150 bhp. The 944 and 924 share so many parts that the 924S is really a 944 in the slimmer and lighter body, the best of both worlds.
If you do join the wonderful world of classic old Porsches I’d highly recommend joining the 924 Owners Club, they have a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm, plus they organise some wonderful grand days out :)
We’re in rural Lincolnshire and you are very welcome to view and drive ‘His Knibs’, we have some great roads for a test-drive!
