We are offering for sale this magnificent Alfa Romeo 1900 super (produced from 1950 to 1959) which belonged to the former President (Leone Giovanni) of the Italian Republic who was elected from 1971 to 1978 for the longest presidential election in the country's history, a term of office of 7 years. The vehicle was first put on the road in 1955. The 1, 975 cc in-line 4-cylinder engine produces 66 kw (90 bhp) and has clocked up 108, 659 km, with a 4-speed gearbox on the steering wheel. The interior is midnight blue and the upholstery grey. The car has just been put back on the road after being stored for more than 15 years in a private museum in Italy. Eligible for the legendary "Mille Miglia" and "Targa Florio" races, the car, entirely designed under the supervision of Orazio Satta Puliga, contained many refined technical evolutions. The "heart" of the Alfa 1900 was its engine. With this new model, the Milanese manufacturer abandoned six- and eight-cylinder engines in favour of powertrains that avoided excessive taxation. Alfa Romeo began bench testing the new 1, 900 cm3 4-cylinder engine on 14 January 1950 with an all-aluminium block. With a single carburettor, it produced 90 bhp. For the car's front suspension, Giuseppe Busso (powertrain designer) opted for a transverse quadrilateral layout, coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers, already used on other models from the marque. The rear suspension was unprecedented. A rigid axle with hypoid bevel gear, coil springs and tubular shock absorbers, all connected longitudinally to the chassis by two duralumin elements that combined anti-roll effects in bends. The detailed design of the bodywork and even the study of the means of production were studied in their entirety at the Alfa Romeo factory in Portello.
