The main feature of the 512 BB or BBi was the twelve-cylinder engine with a displacement of 5 liters (not a boxer engine, but a V-engine with a 180° bank angle), similar to the three-liter racing engines in the Ferrari 312PB prototype and the Ferrari 312T in Formula 1, which were driven by Niki Lauda, among others.
