Description
FIAT X1/ 9 CAR SOS
- details above
This is a very difficult sale as the car is now spot on exactly how I wanted it but I have always wanted a Lancia montecarlo (big brother) and so it's with a heavy heart that I've decided to chase my dream....
HISTORY
Most know the background of this car but I will run over all the history from it's rebuild to my ownership.
Fully restored by CAR SOS in 2021 (season 9 episode 3) - details above taken back to a bare shell and all rust cut out and new panels / metal welded in. (The programme shows the whole story so I won't go into any more detail about that)
The car was then built back up to a substantial standard using mostly new parts and reconditioned parts. I will list everything that was replaced NEW
All of the parts below have covered less than 3k miles since the rebuild.
NEW- EVERY brake line throughout including Goodrich braided hoses to the calipers
NEW - brake calipers all round
NEW - Discs and pads
NEW - Hubs and bearings
NEW - Tie rods / bars and EVERY bush underneath
NEW - Wish bones / bushes
NEW - Steering rack including mounting bushes
NEW - Shocks and lowered springs
NEW - Top mounts / bushes
NEW - Radiator
NEW - EVERY water hose renewed
NEW - EVERY fuel hose renewed
NEW - Thermostat
NEW - Water pump
NEW - Alternator
NEW - Starter motor
NEW - Earth leads and engine bay wiring
NEW - Coil
NEW - Distributor S178 / cap / rotor arm / points / plugs / leads
NEW - Battery
NEW - Clutch hydrolic lines / cylinder
NEW - Clutch
NEW - Driveshafts
NEW - CV joints
NEW - Gearbox driveshaft seals
NEW - Cromodora CD66 Wheels (unmarked) with 185-60-13 tyres.
The engine was on 123k when restored but it was unknown what exactly was done to the engine. This is now irrelevant as the engine failed 2k miles ago smashing all valves and scoring the bores
I've since had a COMPLETE engine rebuild by Frank Rizzuto (Avanti Motorsport) this included the following (with receipts)
Rebored to 1550cc
NEW - Pistons
NEW - Rings
NEW - Main and little end bearings
NEW - Oil pump
Cylinder head refurbished, pressure tested and skimmed.
NEW -Valves
NEW -Seats
NEW -oil stem seals
All new gaskets Cambelt / auxiliary belts built up using all the above new ancillaries
I also bought a pair of Weber DCNF 36 Downdraft carburettors and manifold, with brand new K&N Filters.
All the carbs were stripped and checked and jets cleaned etc.
Custom linkage made for carburettors
It has a Janspeed 4-2-1 exhaust manifold (heat wrapped) and Janspeed back box
The bill for the engine alone was over £3500
It has only covered just over 2k miles so still technically running in. I had the carburettors professionally set up / balanced by an old school carburettor technician who sets up the old Ferrari/ Lamborghini and Aston carburettors (picture included)
The car starts first time anytime hot or cold and has sat in traffic in 25 degree heat and never gone over 90 degrees. The fan cuts in at 85
BAD BITS
I doubt the gearbox has been rebuilt. I have no proof. It crunches slightly going into third but only a bit. ALL gears are fine and it goes into gear no problem.
Passenger window goes up a little too far and catches on the roof seal so I lower it by half an inch to close the door
Drivers seat has come unstitched since it was repaired. I was going to get this done.
If your looking for a low mileage original example then this is not for you. If you want one of the best restored usable examples in the UK with nothing to do but enjoy then this is the one. I doubt you will find a better example with all that's been replaced for this.
The car has only covered 3k miles since full restoration so the mileage of 126k is irrelevant.
It comes with quite a bit of paperwork and history from the previous owner of over 20 years.
