Description
I needed a car to get from LA to Florida. I bought this beauty from a dealer in Thousand Oaks to get me across the country. It drove all the way effortlessly. It's a 4 litre V6 which gives you plenty of urge without burning gallons of fuel. It's got electric windows and a default overdrive knockoff switch when you want to overtake fast. Power steering, power brakes power top. It's the second evolution of the S197 with an edgier look - rear haunch kick ups and a power bulge hood. And it's the last model without the plastic "moustache" that Ford evolved to create a universal Ford radiator shape. This one looks like a proper Mustang. In fact I think it's the best looking Mustang of them all - maybe after the '68 fastback. This is a reliable, fast sports car. It was garaged in our house in Florida for a couple of years, then I shipped it home (Savannah to Southampton - see pic) to London to be a stable mate for my '69 GT Convertible - the other ad on here. I drive it all the time here - driving a LHD in England is easy, you use both side mirrors. You actually get to see more in traffic. It has been fully converted to EU spec with side flashers and orange indicators at the rear. Sadly I had to lose the sequential flashers at the back as they are not UK legit. These days we've used it to holiday in Europe. It has been a breeze on long runs down to Italy and Spain. LHD really coming into its own. It has a cloth interior - you wouldn't want leather in either California or Florida, believe me.
Changes? The transmission was sorted in Florida. The new Canvas roof with heated rear glass was installed there too. Back here, new stronger front suspensions mounts and the rear end was lowered by 1 inch using Roush coil springs. It sits and drives perfectly as a result. As I said this is a reliable, fast sports car. You will love it.
