Description
This is an original numbers bike that was exported to Johnson Motors in the USA and repatriated 10 years ago in good condition for its age, when I bought it at an ‘H and H’ auction in Duxford. Keeping the original paintwork and chrome I refurbished the bike, including new club con rods, cleaning the oil galleries, Morgo pump, cartridge oil filter, Otto head gasket, solid state rectifier-regulator and much more. All the work is documented with photos and receipts. The battery, air filter and rear mudguard are not standard as the previous owner changed them, I like them so they were left like that. The 9, 000 miles on the clock is almost certainly original as pistons and shells are all standard size. This is a reliable, smooth and comfortable bike to ride. It is on an age related plate and registered as an historic vehicle. V5c in my name. This is a great bike, easy to start, reliable and with steady handling. It’s a very tractable, powerful bike that can cruise all day. The reason for selling is I’m downsizing.
It’s reliable and you can ride it as it is, or get rid of the patina and smarten it up to showroom condition.
If you have never owned a square four then don’t worry, they are just like other British bikes from the 1950s. They don’t overheat as this is the last version made and the issue was cured. They are easy to start as only one cylinder is on a compression stroke when kicking it over. Much easier to start than a large single. Just ride and enjoy it!
This is the last production version of the Ariel Square Four Mark 2. The numbers on the dating certificate match the bike and the V5c.
