needs restoration brought on here 2 years ago but needs alot of welding and mechanical work did drive back from london but used alot of fuelbeautiful car but needs restoration and i thought i brought a roadworthy vehicle
Garage report
Thanks for bringing the Flavia PF Coupe to us. We have spent a bit of time having a
good look over it and I have a list or repairs for you. Some of these are safety critical
rather than just desirable and render the car unroadworthy in it's current condition.
There are other items which need attention but are less urgent.
Mechanical
Critical - (would be MOT failure).
Steering idler box bushes worn, significant play in steering idler.
Front hub bearing LH and RH have significant play causing steering and braking
inputs.
Fuel tank filler pipe not secure. Pipe to tank hose 'repair' not satisfactory. Soft hose
not of fuel quality.
Windscreen washers not working
Horn not working - probably damaged slip ring on column and or column loom
Headlamps flasher not working - probably damaged slip ring on column and or
column loom - Column wiring repair
Investigation required -
Brake master cylinder fitted seems incorrect - braking system not tested on road.
RH drive shaft seal in gearbox/ diff casing significant leak - there is significant noise
from the differential. Perhaps damaged due to poor lubrication? Seal and gearoil
Engine oil consumption noted by customer but not tested.- Unknown without further
investigation.
Observations -
LH outer CV joint gaiter split.
RH upper ball joint gaiter split
Front subframe to body rubber mounts perished
Rear anti-roll bar bushes perished
Engine has poor idle. Not tested on road.
Steering wheel delaminating.
Body
Critical - (would be MOT failure).
LH and RH front floors need significant repair/ replacement. There are poor quality
previous repairs and further corrosion in the floors. Multiple perforation including
near the LH rear of subframe mounting.
front floor/ footwell/ bulkhead corroded. LH and RH sill end closing panels
incorrectly shaped previous repairs, further corrosion, body filler in structural area.
LH front section outer sill corroded and and badly mis-shped under sill. Body filler in
structural area.
LH and RH rear footwells corroded and perforated.
LH and RH rear spring front mounting area heavily corroded and perforated.
LH and RH shock absorber mounting points heavily corroded and perforated.
RH rear spring mounting area to sill corroded and perforated.
LH and RH seat belt mounting areas corroded and perforated.
Observations -
LH and RH rear quarter/ rear valance inner and outer have been fabricated in
aluminium and fixed to the steel body with pop rivets, then filled over. There may be
further corrosion at the rear spring hangers - not investigated as would be intrusive.
There is body filler and cracking in the lower front and rear wings at the seam to the
sill - suspect structural area perished/ corroded - not investigated as would be
intrusive.
There appears to be body filler and fibreglass repair in the front and rear wheel
arches and sill closing panels - suspect structural area perished/ corroded - not
investigated as would be intrusive.
Most rear and side body seals, lamp seals, glass seals perished with evident water
ingress.
