Description
Here for sale is my Mk1 Escort 4 door 1300L. It was registered in May 1972 (K reg) and is therefore tax and MOT exempt. (51 years old)
When I bought the car, it was in a state of disrepair. It had been under sealed but it was hiding lots of rust so I ended up doing lots of body work, replacing;
Front panel with round headlight.
Head lamp bowls
Crossmember
Complete inner wing
Strut top reinforcement
2 door sill with step
Spare wheel trough
Petrol trough
2 rear wheel arches
(all receipts with paper work)
I stripped the car completely taking everything out and just leaving the shell so I could send it to the fabricator. Spencer at church farm welding did all the welding and did an amazing job. He also did 2 coats of underseal on the underside of the car whilst he had it upside-down on his trolly.
It then went to the body shop for spaying. It was originally tawny metallic brown but had been sprayed blue at some point in its life (and changed to blue on the log book) I made the decision to keep it the blue colour. He did a full respray all the interior and exterior. He also put stone chip on the sills of the car on both sides and the bottom 3 inches of the door to give extra protection as he knew I would be driving it and it wouldn’t be trapped in someone garage. This also cost me thousands he had the car for about 11 months making sure it was perfect for me.
It is fitted with the standard 1300 HC crossflow engine and standard 4 speed Type 2 gearbox. The engine has done 79000 miles from new. I did a full engine rebuild with no expense spared. It starts on the button, even being sat for a couple of mouths. I’ve got all the receipts for all parts, all the gaskets, filters and liquids were changed. Too many parts to list. Brand new up rated twin alloy radiator and All the silicon hoses where replaced with new, starter motor is new. Brand new points and condenser. Brand new dynamo. New spark plugs, new HT leads, new washer pot and pump, wired in through a dash switch, new fuel pump. It is currently running a single Webber (all overhauled with new parts where needed) but I have got the inlet manifold to suit a pair of twin Webbers but I don’t think the car needs them as it runs and drives perfect. (keeps up and can even over take Modern cars) but I will give them to the purchaser so they can if they would like. The car has had a new clutch and thrust bearing and arm fitted.
It is fitted with the original drum front brakes- I have bought new wheel cylinders all round and a seal kit for the master cylinder, so the work incredibly well, just like new.
It had 4 new mini light wheels and tyres fitted (the receipt is with the big folder of paper work)
The interior is not too bad - the roof lining is fine and all the seats and door cards are fitted with all window winders and door handles, the front seats have a couple of splits. I did replace the door hinge pins as they were very worn. The dash is a standard 2 pot dash. The gear stick is a short shift for faster gear changing. I would say to get this car outstanding the inside would need an overhaul.
Bad bits, the paint work on the bonnet has started to bubble slightly, the interior could do with a little bit of work.
I have access to a car ramp for inspections of the underside if the buyer would like.
Any questions or more information required then please let me know.
Any spare parts I have will be going with the car and there are lots as you can imagine. I have got the original front bumper but I prefer the look without it fitted so that will also be going with the car.
I am asking £13500 or nearest offer.
Thanks ANDY. I brought this car in in February 2018 with the aim of renovating and modifying slightly to make the car something people look at and admire. This little car does get lots of attention when you take it out. people always come over and talk to me about it.
I have gone to 3 car shows in the escort. In one of them it came second place in a rev off competition against a V8 mustang.
I am very sad to see the car go as I’ve had so much fun driving it around and love the attention it’s got when I take it out. It’s also the cheapest car anyone could wish for. Insurance for the year was £202 (26yr old Male) and to fill the tank with petrol is £40 and of course no road tax or MOT. I am selling the car as we are doing up our house and the money from the car will be needed for the renovation. If we weren’t needing the money the car would be staying with me as you never see genuine UK registered MK1 4 door escorts on the market.
