Description
For Sale: our VW T2 1973 Bay Window Camper Van.
Firstly, it's worth noting this is a reluctant sale. I purchased this Camper for my Father when it was merely a yellow shell 12 years ago. Since then he has lovingly, and meticulously restored it to its current condition which is immaculate.
The restoration took place over 7 years and included the shell being stripped back to bare metal, being “acid dipped” and rebuilt mechanically and cosmetically. The interior was also has a bespoke fit out of the highest quality. Of course, this hasn’t been restored to be an “original” camper van, but it has some subtle modifications to suit our taste and improve the drivability of what is a 50 year old vehicle.
Since it's full nut and bolt restoration was completed in 2019, it has been used for a number of tours around the UK and has been stored in a heated garage, and throughly cleaned down following use in wet weather. The underside is not only solid, but immaculate, as is the engine bay and the interior. The mileage on completion of the restoration was 31, 118 and is now 35, 164 (will increase slightly over next few weeks), so the van has done just 4, 000 miles since restoration.
In 2023, the van had a completely new 1776CC engine fitted from The VW Engine Company (c.£7k) as we had some reliability issues with the previous unit and this has not only improved reliability but it makes for easier motorway miles. Since the engine was installed, the van has done c. 2, 000 miles.
The restoration is fully documented with all invoices & receipts for every single part. All mileage since completion has been logged too. We are not in a rush to sell, but it is simply becoming too impractical for my parents to use so we have agreed to begin the sale process. They will likely use the funds for a bigger motorhome.
Feel free to call with any questions, I do recommend coming to view where we can detail the full ownership journey and take you out for a drive. This is truly a special example, and surely one of the best condition T2’s in the UK.
