Description

One of the best Porsche 911 993 Carrera 2 Cabriolet’s in the UK. Finished in stunning Midnight Blue with complementing Blue hood with Marble Grey and Midnight Blue leather interior. Extensive history totalling tens of thousands of pounds and fully stamped service books, the car has been cherished it’s whole life with no expense spared and always garaged.
The 993 is considered by many as the ultimate incarnation of the Air-cooled 911. It was available for a limited run between January 1994 and early 1998. Porsche referred to the 993 as a ‘significant advance in both technical and visual perspective’ and the cars featured a new light-alloy subframe with coil and wishbone multi-link suspension which was seen as a significant step forwards in handling. It was also the first 911 to receive an excellent 6-speed manual gearbox. The car is standard and unmolested, retains the original factory 17 inch ‘Cup 2’ alloy wheels which are in very nice condition with no curbing damage whilst other details such as the rear light units and central reflector (often found in a poor state) are also in excellent condition. Tyres are all N rated Pirelli.
The electrically operated cabriolet hood is finished in complimenting dark blue and was replaced with a new OEM item in 2019 at a cost of £2500 and is therefore in superb condition with no major marks or signs of wear. The hood also has a matching tonneau cover which tidies up the look of the car with the hood open. A removable OEM wind deflector also comes with the car. The Marble Grey leather and all other areas of trim, carpets, fascia’s & finishes all in excellent condition, in fact the whole interior of this car is probably one of the cleanest of all the 993’s around. All electrics and controls are working correctly and a set off matching Midnight Blue over-mats protect the colour coded carpets.
The seats are both 8-way electrically adjustable along with the electrically operated windows, electrically heated mirrors and convertible roof which folds away quickly at the simple press of a button. The rear spoiler can be electrically raised at will via a button on the centre console and deploys automatically at speed. The car also has the on-board trip computer option giving instant economy and average speed figures etc.
The front compartment area is again in superb, clean and tidy condition with well fitted carpet trim below which the space saver spare wheel, wheel jack and tool kit and tyre compressor are all present and correct. At the rear of the car, the engine bay again presents beautifully and looks well cared for with a tidy engine insulation pad and factory stickers all in place.
Mechanically the car runs and drives just as well as it looks. The engine idles smoothly and on the move, power delivery is smooth and strong with a glorious flat six howl towards the higher end of the rev range, the car is fitted with the optional Porsche “Motorsound” kit which tastefully amplifies the engine sound using a tweaked air box and exhaust.
The air conditioning system is fully functioning on this car since it was refurbished under warranty by Porsche Centre Chester in 2013 the system with several main components including the compressor replaced and the CCU for the Air Con control was repaired in full in 2019 by Ninemeister. The car also benefits from a replacement clutch and flywheel fitted at 70, 000 miles, again by Ninemeister. The lower rear wishbones were changed in 2022 by D&G Porsche. A full 4 wheel alignment was done in the process. Owner prior to me was a collector who had the car for 3 years (During his ownership serviced D&G Porsche Newcastle, often stored, always garaged - driven only in summer a scant 2, 000 miles in 3 years), before then another enthusiast for 8 years (During his ownership, servicing and maintenance was completed on a regular basis by Cheshire based independent specialists Ninemeister in Warrington - huge amount of works done. He used the car occasionally for weekend pleasure driving covering less than 10, 000 miles in seven years of ownership.) - both Porsche Club Members as am I. The car has been maintained impeccably with every small detail attended to. I spent 4 months searching for the right 933 Cabriolet and was advised by Chris at GCR Central the Air Cooled Porsche Specialists in Leicestershire. This example is showroom quality and with a slight amount of paint correction (minor stone chips that have been touched up) it would be concourse winner material. I purchased the car as a long term investment to also enjoy driving (hence I made sure it was of the very best condition and history possible but ensured that there were many miles left to enjoy without affecting value). Regrettably a change in circumstances forces a sale - I have had one spectacular summer of ownership, including attending the Porsche Club Cotswold Rally and 1, 500 truly enjoyable miles with the car. Very reluctant sale. This immaculate 993 drives phenomenally. It is the pre-variorum - there is a popular misconception that the variorum was an upgrade when in fact it was actually the precursor to water cooled engines and the gear ratios were amended for efficiency - the result is that despite the additional power the non-vario is actually quicker 0-60MPH 0-70MPH and matches 0-80MPH with the varios only eking a slight advantage after 80MPH. - details above

Beyond that, any Porsche tech will tell you that these engines varied from production to production - this one seems to pull harder than the stated 272BHP, it's responsive and quick in every gear and at 4-5, 000RPM and up it pulls like a train. It's a joy to drive roof up or roof down.

A modern, Blaupunkt, bluetooth enabled stereo system streams music through the excellent sound system and makes and receives phone calls perfectly. A beautiful, on brand modern convenience but also easily reverted for a concourse collector.
