A very beautiful, original ALVIS in ivory white with a meticulously detailed body-off chassis restoration to concours standards, equipped with the revised, original engine. Wonderful to drive and can be used in modern traffic without any problems. The vehicle history including ALVIS's car record is available but has gaps for the war years and the years before the complete restoration.
A Scottish Alvis enthusiast worked on this car from 2007 to 2011 and the finished result is perfect. A local engine engineering company was commissioned to carry out the engine overhaul, while other components were sourced from Alvis specialists in the UK. The British Racing Green leather upholstery and trim were also made in Scotland.
Many Alvis Speed 20 Saloons were converted to Sports Tourer Specials until recently, but this example is an original pre-war car with matching numbers in a fully restored condition.
This Alvis Speed 20 SA was produced in the first batch of 100 (out of a total of 351 Speed 20 SAs) and features the typical fixed front axle. Only 32 of this type of Vanden Plas Tourer were built according to the Alvis Trust.
The SA is considered by many enthusiasts to be the most desirable Speed model due to its lower weight and superior quality.
Many chassis were fitted with Cross & Ellis Sports trim. New London Alvis dealer Charles Follett successfully offered this exclusive Vanden Plas two-door sports tourer as a 100 M. P. H. car at a higher price.
Some highlights for those interested in technology:
Ignition via coil (starter) or magnet (drive); ignition adjustment, hand throttle, parking lights, dipped beam and headlights can be operated mechanically via the steering wheel. Brake adjustment via a wheel inside the car. Electric fan with adjustable thermostat. Electric overdrive. Central lubrication. Synchronized 4-speed gearbox (except 1st gear). The so-called crash box (original gearbox, not synchronized) is present and comes with the car.
This Alvis is second-hand since the restoration. It has always been carefully maintained and is in very good mechanical and cosmetic condition. 7000 miles have been covered since restoration.
Accessories:
Tonneau cover and pop-up windows are new, as is the soft top.
