Description
I purchased the car in August 2021, from a family friend who was retiring to Australia. He had owned the car from almost new, and through his ownership has maintained the car, whatever the expense, including a full respray and engine rebuild to extend the engine life.
The car benefits from a full history, with the previous owner meticulously keeping every invoice. I've had the car serviced and maintained by a Surrey based specialist.
I've used the car mostly for longer trips, touring France and Ireland, as well as taking the car camping to various classic events around the UK. The well sized boot providing plenty of space for tents etc.
In terms of driving, this Elan m100 is sublime. Both at motorway speeds and on b-roads, it is a joy to drive. The turbo boosts well through the revs, and the brakes slow the car well. The car has uprated Hispec brand front brakes, and a full stainless exhaust with a larger bore.
I've recently had the rear calipers re-built with refurbished original castings, and the handbrake is currently functional - a very common Elan issue. I've also had the gaiters changed on the front shafts, and gearbox oil changed, as well as normal servicing. I replaced the battery last year.
The car has never been tuned, chipped or mapped, and has never been on a track.
Cosmetically the car is good. The interior is in great condition, and externally, the car has benefited from a respray in the 2000's, with a colour matched, modern, fade resistant paint The red looks bright and rich, and has a good shine. The history folder includes photos of the respray work.
As this is a 30 year old Lotus, there are obviously a few niggles: the covers to the B pillars are missing - this is common as they are badly designed and brittle. It doesn't affect operation of the hood. The hood is a little tired in places, but as you would probably garage the car, it's not a huge issue. There is some cracking to the paint on the rear bumper, just over the back box.
The car has an MOT to May 31st 2025.
I've loved owning the car, and am sad to be selling it. I am extending my house, and this is the reason for selling the car. I think it is worth every penny, however, I will consider near offers.
