You are looking at a great example of Honda's racing prodigy.
The bike was originally registered in Switzerland in 1988, was imported to the UK and registered in the UK in 2021. Unfortunately I have no previous documentation but have been the only owner since 2021, apart from the importer who registered the bike with the DVLA and sold it on to me without having used it.
The bike has only covered 22677 km, about 14000 miles, which I believe to be genuine. The way it rides and runs is testament to the mileage. It is in original condition, showing some signs of a bike that is nearly 40 years old, however is mechanically absolutely sound. The carbs have been tuned and balanced, it starts first time on the button and rides fantastically.
It is taxed till 1 February 2025 and the MOT runs out on the 21 July 2025. It has a new set of Metzler tyres fitted, and a new Motobatt battery. It still has the original Honda tool kit stowed away in the lockable box, I have two keys and the V5 registered in my name.
Unfortunately, I find the riding position doesn't any longer suit an ageing rider of 63. As much as I love the bike, having owned an '83 VF 1000 RE in my youth, I am no longer the brave carefree rider I was, so reluctantly feel the bike needs to be appreciated by the right discerning biker.
It is painted in the standard Rothmans HRC livery, and only 530 of these were built for road use around the world. It was built as a homologation and used by Honda for endurance racing.
Whoever is successful in buying this fantastic piece of Honda engineering will surely appreciate the heritage of the V4 Cam Gear Driven engine. A wonderful collectors bike that will only appreciate in value. The VF1000R was the first bike to be produced for road use that was capable of over 150mph. It looks absolutely resplendent in it's Honda Rothmans Racing Colours and descends from Honda's race winning V4 formula. As a homoligation, where a certain number had to be produced for road use in order to qualify for racing, only 530 of the Rothamans Honda Racing VF1000 were produced worldwide.
It had technology way before it's time, boasting 122 bhp at 10000 rpm, adjustable air assisted front forks fitted with TRAC - Torque Reactive Anti-Dive Control system. The rear suspension is Honda's racing developed Pro-Link air suspension with 3 way adjustable rebound damping.
The Cams are gear driven giving the engine a unique tone and reliability.
This bike was the birth of the modern superbike, which gives it the unique quality any discerning enthusiast will appreciate.
It is truly a wonderful bike to ride.
