Description
Land Rover Series 1 80” (1952 model, but manufactured in 1951). Originally sold as a civilian vehicle by a Rover dealer in Reading, this Land Rover was restored around 20 years ago by someone who had served in the 36 royal Artillery Regiment in Malta. 7 previous owners. The current owner purchased the vehicle from a LRSOC member in 2013 and has driven to LRSOC events, including the 70th anniversary rally in Anglesey. The engine number and gearbox numbers almost match and are correct for a 1952 model.
The condition is good, with a good original chassis. Paintwork is in dessert sand and is appropriate for a military Land Rover (no need to polish!) . The engine has good torque and compression, although oil consumption is on the high side. The gearbox, low/ high ratio and four wheel drive all work correctly , although a bit noisy. Some of the wiring looks original. The engine has been fitted with a modern spin on oil filter , which is disguised to look like the original now unobtainable cartridge filter. Also an oil pressure and temperature gauge has been fitted. Also recently fitted with a new fuel pump, which is suitable for modern fuels.
The canvas hood has a tear in the top and in the rear window. Whilst the hood sticks work, they are not straight.
4 Avon traction mileage tyres, plus 2 spare wheels , with old 600 tyres. All 6 wheels are military split rims.
Also included are a war department 1952 Jerry can and water cans, plus an original army nap sack that serves as a glovebox. Some spare parts and a toolbox , whitworth spanners, bottle Jack and facsimile owners manual. This Landy was restored by someone who served in the 36th royal artillery regiment in Malta, and they put a lot of time into the details. It stands out from a bronze green series 1. I purchased from someone in Lincolnshire, otherwise all previous owners have been in the Reading area. It is a recreation of a military 80”.
