Description
this bike is registered as a 1966 Sportster XLCH, as this is what is stamped on the casing - but a friend pointed out to me that they are later casings that have been restamped, also has later forks. However, it is registered as a 66 bike, but it is not original - think of it as a custom.
Imported to UK 2020 - not a lot of history with it but it is in excellent condition. The motor starts easy and runs well, goes up the gears and handles fine. Brakes OK. It has a Super E carb fitted.
The paint was done recently (not by me), and the chrome is not bad but flaking in places. The heads have been chromed but are flaking, they always do, not sure why people bother. The chainguard could do with re-chroming - tried to show this in the pictures.
Small tank and even smaller (basic) seat - so not a touring bike, but great on the back roads & glens.
I have not done much with it, new back tyre, battery clamp, fitted a gps speedo (hence the low miles - I have no idea what the true mileage is or if it is even relevant)- I did this as I thought I needed it for MOT but apparently I don't. Anyway, its on now, and it works - but is easily removed.
Slash cut pipes, so it is loud. I have retrofitted some baffles to take the edge off it. I took it out for 20 miles at the weekend and it is much more bearable.
I have a video of it running. I only bought this last year but having a change of plan and reducing collection to a couple of British bikes.
I am up in Scotland near Dundee, collection only, however I do have trips planned to Glasgow, York and Manchester coming up - I can stick it in the trailer and bring it South with me if it helps.
