Description

We purchased this Mk2 Jaguar after a long and painstaking search. In the end I found this lovely example on the Yorkshire Moors and acquired it through an auction. We travelled by train to Darlington where the owner met us in the Mk2, he drove us to his cottage on the Moors where we completed the deal, then we drove the car the 320 miles home.
This 1962 Mark 2 Jaguar, in Opalescent Silver Blue with red leather interior turns heads wherever it goes. It comes with it original registration number 1210WK. It started life as the 2. 4l model but was uprated to the more desirable 3. 4l model and fully restored 24 years ago.

1210WK drives well for her age but would benefit from a full service and tune up, which was last carried out in June 2023 (100 miles ago). For a car that was made in 1962 and is now 62 years old it is in remarkably good condition for its age. You will see from the pictures that the paintwork is in reasonable condition but it is not perfect, with some minor imperfections; the seats, carpet and headlining are original and are in good condition; the woodwork is also in very good condition. There is no major rust in the bodywork or chassis and mechanically it is sound. Ironically, the only time she let us down was when the modern electronic points failed (replaced with a new distributor).
The car has spent a large portion of her life in Yorkshire. The previous owner, who lived in Whitby, acquiring her in 2003. She was regularly MOT’d up to 2018 when classic vehicles over 40 years old were granted MOT exemption.

In the year 1999-2000, over a 12-month period, the car received a major restoration with any rust dealt with and the original 2. 4l engine replaced with the more desirable 3. 4l XK engine, with twin 3inch SU carburettors, an all synchromesh 4 speed gearbox and refurbished overdrive. I am told the work was carried at the Old Abattoir in Middlesbrough and mechanically and structurally they have done a good job as the car handles as expected and all panels fit well. It is of course now classed as an older restoration! I know that we and the previous owner have kept the car in a garage when not in use and I have been reluctant to take her out in inclement weather.
During her time in our care she has had a new distributor, plug, leads and coil. A new aluminium radiator, thermostat and tyres. Amazingly the Motorola radio still works, but there are few AM channels to listen to!
We have enjoyed owning 1210WK and taking her to classic car shows, but need the garage space for our other classic car which needs attention and has been in storage since we downsized to a single garage.
