Description
Ex-US car, owned by my father since it came back into the UK from California in 1990. Sadly, health reasons mean he can't drive it anymore, so we now need to find a good home for it. Body was repainted in the original Damson in 2021 and is completely solid. Interior was also replaced at the same time. MX-5 seats. J-type overdrive gearbox. Engine was rebuilt in 2017, with the head being skimmed and a 2. 5Pi camshaft (308778) fitted, so it's a lot peppier than a standard US engine. Also had new rear hubs and driveshafts in the past five years.
The only fault I can find with the car is that the synchros on third gear are evidently worn, meaning you can get a bit of a crunch going into gear if you rush the change up into third. Dad has clearly been managing with this for years, and if you take your time then it’s fine, but also has to be noted. This also means that it occasionally jumps out of third gear on the overrun, too.
Other than that, the car is mechanically sorted and ready to go, with valid MOT until March 2025. Dad has used it to take part in both the Club Triumph Round Britain Reliability Run and 10 Countries run, been to Le Mans in it numerous times and attended many, many TR Register events around the UK over the past three decades or so. It has been cherished by our family throughout all that time and my sisters and I have literally grown up with/ in this car, so although letting it go will be a real wrench, we’d like it to go to someone who will use and enjoy it as we have, rather than it just sitting in a lockup gathering dust.
There is probably plenty more I could say about the car, so very happy to talk further and in more detail with anyone who might be interested, while viewings are also welcome. We're based in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
