Description
Welcome to the somewhat reluctant sale of my XJC. I have a collection of classics and it’s time to downsize a little
This is the third XJC I’ve owned and it’s the best I’ve had !
It’s a 1976 car 4. 2 litre straight 6 Auto with V5 in my name and just 6 previous owners . It is correctly registered as a historic vehicle.
Interior is a dark navy blue, looks black in the photos - just a trick of the light.
Paint colour is rare- it’s lavender blue- it had a full respray by previous owner paint is good
I have an album of photos- not digital of the respray in 2020
Bright work is ok- it shines and is about 7/ 10
Interior leather is good, no rips or tears and in good condition
Wooden inlays around glove box could do with re doing , but are ok
Wheels are original, tyres are a couple of years old with loads of tread.
I’ve had lots done mechanically , all work has been done by a proper classic garage with receipts . ( don’t make me add them up ! )
In my time the car has had a lot of work- in March 23 it had new speedo drive, new temperature sensor- that was the start of it !
My car then went in for work on a leaking fuel tank and it running roughly. A new right fuel tank, sender , seals and O-ring were sourced and fitted and fuel lines replaced.
in addition manual choke kit and cable were installed to replace the troublesome AED.
In order to improve the engine tick over, a series of actions were undertaken. A illuminition ignition kit and distributor conversion kit were fitted. New spark plugs leads distributor cap and rotor arm. The carbs were removed and fully serviced with new seals new fuel lines, fuel filter fuel hoses and vacuum lines.
All 4 rear shocks were removed and replaced - engine mounts replaced .
The car was then MOTd at a different Garage. We also had wheels aligned at the same time
You will see the car passed its MOT, with a couple of advisories around the steering rack and also a fluid leak from the engine.
I decided to have these matters attended to at the same time to get ahead of future issues.
Steering rack hardware and bush kit fitted to negate that issue. The fluid leak turned out to be more than just a sump gasket. The water pump was leaking and has been replaced. In addition the timing chain was found to be more worn than I would have liked. Therefore this has been replaced along with the guides and tensioners to give peace of mind.
Another advisory was a leak from the differential. New seals and fresh fluid have been sourced and fitted.
A couple of further issues while working on it.
The fan was noisy so a new mechanism was fitted A new sender was also fitted in fuel tank
Map you can see the car has had a lot of investment and I’ve receipts to back up the details.
A few weeks ago I took the Car on a tour of Norfolk after a few shakedown runs. We did nearly 600 miles in three days and the Car performed brilliantly. Only issue was a sticking fuel gauge, but that looks to have settled now.
I believe that I have now got the Car to a very good and very usable standard. I even did a friends wedding in it and recently taken it to a couple of local shows
Like any car that’s nearly 50 years old there’s always something that’s on the job list ! Dash veneer around glove box is faded and could do with renovating if you wanted to take the car to the next level . Electric windows work, but they struggle a bit ! Common issue ! Chrome boot finisher missing but I may have sourced one. I have a set of wheel centres. Fuel sensor sticks occasionally.
Happy to answer any questions- I’d welcome and encourage a viewing. There are two history files- one has photos of paint job . The other has receipts and lots of old MOTs The receipts are mainly from late 1970s/ early 80s and of course a lot of my recent ones that includes current MOT that expires 15/ 01/ 2025
If you like 70s cars that are rare and in a very period colour then this is for you !
The Xjc personifies “Grace, pace and style “ it’s an excellent touring car , it’s so smooth and remarkably quiet
