Description
1980 924 Turbo S1 (single mirror) with 52, 000 miles.
Car starts on the key each time and settles quickly in to a sensible idle. It has a very 1980's turbo lag, though being front-engined it's less likely to spit you out backwards in to a hedge going around a corner!
I have had some mechanical restoration carried out by MR Performance near Salisbury where £5000 was spent improving and refreshing the car.
Their work included:
• 4 new spark plugs
• New distributor
• Cam belt and alternator belt kit
• Fuel filter
• New battery
• Both fuel pumps
• New pads and discs all round and new rear calipers
• Braided brake lines
• Reconditioned fuel tank
I have also done the following during my ownership:
• Warm Up Regulator rebuild
• Front suspension and steering refresh and repaint plus new bolts, nuts and washers from Porsche where required. Parts replaced: front shocks, brake guards, steering rack gators
• New Porsche air filter, oil filter and 10W50 oil
• New tyres
• New turbo oil feed O-rings and upgraded titanium studs
Electrics:
• The car did have a manual switch for the fuel pump which has since been removed but some of the wiring remains
• Aftermarket head unit works but the front-wing mounted aerial does not extend
• All lights (exterior and interior) work
• Front wipers work, rear is intermittent
The interior is in very good condition for it's age:
• Full and seemingly unused toolkit, complete with West German manufacture stamps
• Rear luggage blind fitted and in great condition
• Front seats have a split in the fabric along the seat seams
• Dashboard is suffering slightly from cracking
Exterior:
• The paint is very good with only a few small blemishes
• Le Mans alloy wheels are immaculate with nearly-new tyres
• Rubbers and boot spoiler all present really well
History:
Extensive, including loads of old MOTs, service receipts, stamped service book, user handbook and accessories brochure.
As an S1 it has the 5-speed ‘snail shell’ dogleg box which doesn’t like to be rushed, especially in gears 1 and 2. I have fully synthetic gear oil ready to go in.
I've never seen another Malaga Red Porsche and I was really drawn to the deep, almost purple colour. Match that with the very '80s tan pasha seats, brown dashboard and the extra vents and NACA duct and I was sold!
The car underwent a period of restoration/ little use between 2010-2020 with the mileage only increasing by 4000 during that time.
Last year I completed a 400 mile round trip with no issues!
May P/ X. Tell me what you’ve got!
