Description

A genuine 3 owner import from the Netherlands. This Volvo 242 DL is a rare sight in the UK as they were never sold by Volvo to the UK market. I have owned the car now for 5 years, I originally purchased the car to make into quite a different modified Volvo but the project never really materialised so the car stayed standard other than the seats and steering wheel which complement the car in my opinion. I'm the third owner of this car and I imported it myself from the Netherlands back in May 2019, I have done less than 300 miles in the car in my 5 years of ownership. I bought the car direct from the second owner. The car has been restored by it's original owner (looking through my conversations from when I bought the car, it was restored in around 1994 according to the second owner), after restoration the car has been sat in storage with the same equivalent as our SORN status until 2018 where it was sold to it's second owner. The second owner used the car for around a year and had done less than 1, 000km before deciding to sell the car. Before I purchased this car I had looked at a few different 242's from different countries and paid to get the cars inspected, all the cars were very rusty underneath and then I spotted this car had come up for sale. I messaged the seller and came to an agreement to have the car inspected. The inspection came back and it was the best car I had seen, requiring very little work. The seller had an oil change done just before I bought the car, I have just carried out a full service myself on the car. During my entire ownership the car has been kept indoors in a dry garage other than my first month or so of ownership where it was kept outdoors but under a car cover.

The only changes I have made to the car are fitting a genuine rev counter to the dashboard centre binnacle, replacing the old worn out seats for Alfa 156 black leather front seats, fitting black leather Volvo 244 rear seats and fitting a motolita steering wheel with a snap off steering wheel boss to make it easy to take the steering wheel with you when away from the car thus making it less desirable to be stolen. Sadly I no longer have the original seats or steering wheel. The car has just had brand new front and rear brake calipers, pads and discs fitted, a full service, a new battery and comes with plenty of spares that are handy to keep in the boot.

Spares include a LHD power steering rack if you wanted to convert to power steering (the steering isn't that heavy with this having the standard thin wheels), ignition spares including a brand new coil, a few cooling system spares, a speedo cluster that's in miles not KM and a few other bits and pieces.

There are slight blemishes here and there in the paint work (pictured) and the wing mirror arms are showing minor pitting/ corrosion, these are quite minor but are worth mentioning. The wheels are in acceptable condition but they would benefit from a refurbishment, the tyres on the car are very old, however they are in remarkable condition for their age and don't show any issues, I would assume this is down to being kept indoors for a long time. I can work out a package if you want the wheels and small paint blemishes sorting. The car falls under historical vehicle tax and MOT rules but it can also be MOT'd before sale if that is something you require. There is a very minor oil leak from the engine but for the 5 years the car has been sat in my garage it has barely left any oil at all on the floor.

I have taken loads of videos of the underneath, showing how tidy the car is, if you wish to see them please ring me and I can send you them via WhatsApp, along with lots of other pictures of the car. Under the bonnet and in the boot has been covered in a wax/ oily type substance from when the car has been restored, the wax can be removed to make the car look much tidier in those areas if wanted, however I have left the wax as I believe that is one of the reasons the car is in such good conditionI bought this car because it really stands out, it's one of the first of the 240 series vehicles being a 1975. The colour really makes the car pop and the general condition is stunning.

The first owner purchased the car on 03/ 06/ 1975 with 11km on the clock. The second owner purchased the car on 27/ 06/ 2018 with around 174, 000km on the clock. I received the car in my possession on 12/ 05/ 2019 and got it registered and MOT'd on 30/ 05/ 2019 with 174, 957km on the clock. The car now has 175, 426km on the clock. The original book pack is here and the car has 4 keys (I got brand new old stock keys cut when I bought the car). I have an inspection report dated 01/ 06/ 1992 with 171, 300km on the clock, meaning in the last 32 years the car has done just over 4, 000km a year, that averages out at 125km a year!
