I wanted to buy a 1971 Mustang since 1985 and it had to be yellow, I read a lot of literature on this car, in 1996 I focused on the 429 Cobrajet engine in particular. After years of research I came across a 429 supposedly restored, in white and the 429 engine had been replaced by a very rare 351 HO.
I managed to find an original engine from a 1969 Shelby, only this model was not designed to receive such a large engine, so I sold the 351 to buy the 429 with its C6 gearbox.
After a few months the white paint started to turn brown, while disassembling some parts, I noticed quite a lot of rust and decided to have it restored according to the rules, any rotten sheet metal or sheet metal too damaged to be salvaged was replaced by new hand-formed sheet metal and the welds were made with tin, not TIG.
In the course of the restoration and complete stripping, we realised that the car was originally yellow, so we returned it to its original colour. So it was pure chance that my dream had come true. Later, while chatting to a group of Mustang enthusiasts, I came across the person who had repatriated the Mustang from Switzerland to France. He told me that the car had ended its days in a field, sunk right down to the floorboards, it was a real survivor.
