Description

'67 Devon Caravette with Martin Walter elevating roof
I've been a Volkswagen enthusiast for most of my life & for a very long time an original '67 Devon Caravette with a Martin Walter elevating roof was the top of my dream list & I'm lucky enough to have been asked to market this fully restored example. This is an amazing opportunity to own such an original bus, with the V5 showing just 2 previous owners . So the background of this genuine RHD 1967 VW Devon Caravette with Martin Walter roof option was built in December '66, ordered with no rear seats, with under chassis strengthening belly pans installed, ready for a camper conversion. It was delivered direct from the factory to J. P. White (Devon Conversions) in Sidmouth by train. It was then first registered by the very lucky first owner on the 6th April 1967 & has stayed in the same family for its entire life. Between 1967 - 1979 by the first owner, who then sold it his relative who then sold it to his son, so Father & Son have owned it for the last 45 years ! It had reached the stage that a full restoration was necessary. The bus was fully stripped to the bare shell with the intention to retain & use as much as many original parts/ pieces/ equipment etc as possible. Devon furniture, cooker, coolbox, shaving mirror, bunks, roof bellows, tables and legs, seat belts, sun visors, door panels, rubber cab floor mat, door handles & keys, switches, glass, steering wheel, hub caps, 12volt factory stickers. Gaydon Melamex bowls, plates , cups etc. instruction manual & even the original dash fitted Phillips transistor radio that removes to be used as a portable radio. Factory stock with original Beige grey L472 over Titan red L555 paint colours. With it being a '67 model it left the factory with; 12 volt electrics Dual circuit brake master cylinder Larger capacity fuel tank Non locking fuel flap Front anti roll bar 3 point seat belts Improved 3rd gear for better acceleration & hill climbs. The bus was completely stripped to a bare shell, all rust was cut out and replaced with new metal, sealed in epoxy primer. The underside was completely painted in epoxy mastiff, the shell then painted in 2k & finally waxoiled. The mechanics were stripped & refurbished, all cables (Clutch, accelerator, heater) ball joints, shock absorbers (Correct red & blue as they left the factory), wheel bearings, brakes, pipes, cylinder etc were renewed. The engine has been fully rebuilt as a 1641cc with electronic ignition & single port manifold using the original oil bath air filter to look like stock 1500, but with a bit more ooommppph !! The original St. Christopher safe travels badge is still there & the gear lever extension that came with the bus, so had to go back in. The original floor tiles are still with the camper & should be enough for the visible area, should you wish to reinstate ? So there you have it , an extremely rare chance to own such a low owner, very, very complete & original fully restored UK RHD Volkswagen Devon Caravette with Martin Walter elevating roof. A true 4 berth splitscreen for £40, 000. We're based in North Devon, close to the golden sandy beaches of Woolacombe, Saunton & Croyde & just a stones throw from the rolling Exmoor hills, so the perfect place to visit for a couple of days whilst choosing your new classic Volkswagen. We can also provide a walkround video & assist with national or international delivery .
