1998 4. 0 Litre V8 Supercharged long wheelbase in Seafrost green. Only 77, 000 miles.
These cars, especially the Daimler variant of the JLR XJ series, are becoming harder to find and are fast becoming regarded as a modern day classic.
I bought this car in February 2024 as a restoration project, believing that I could get it road legal and use it as an executive ‘Sunday’ cruiser.
The service book is stamped up to 2019 (the book is full) with the 1st 8 years by Appleyard Jaguar and subsequently by a reputable garage up to 2020.
It starts, runs and drives but is out of MOT.
The running gear appears to be OK; engine sounds sweet and gearbox seems to change gear fine. Doesn’t seem to be any issues with the diff. It does require a couple of front wheel bearings (which I have) and there is a slight 'blow' from the front offside exhaust. There are no unexpected engine fault codes stored and no warning messages on the dash.
I have fixed quite a few issues, however, this car requires underside welding, (floor, inner and outer sills in particular and rear wheel arches) and unfortunately due to a couple of recent health issues, I’m no longer in a position to be able to do that welding myself, so, very sadly, I need to let it go.
Interior is in very good order with the rare option of electrically adjustable heated rear seats. Comes with the original sheepskin floor rugs too.
I believe that this car could be a great project for someone with the expertise and facilities to do the required welding and bearings. This is the last of the XJ series made from steel. Later models had an aluminium chassis. Alternatively, it could be stripped for parts or for a ‘project car/ kit car’.
I have the original Daimler booklets, a history file with receipts etc. 2 keys and the V5 is in my name. I am the 5th owner.
