Description

For sale is my beautiful, low-mileage Vaz-2102 (Lada 1200) - the rare estate version. She is ready to be enjoyed on the road immediately. The 2102 has been my daily driver ever since returning to the UK last year, and has been a real head turner (see for yourself, you’ve clicked on this ad) and a conversation starter wherever I’ve taken her since. Now registered onto UK plates; Tax / MOT / ULEZ-exempt (“Historic Vehicle” class in the V5C). Classic car insurance costs me just over £200 for the year.

The odometer is in km, not miles and is showing just north of -06800- having just gone round the clock for the first time (106, 800km): the formidable condition of the car reflects this. She comes with all the authentic Slavic embellishments: tiger-print seats, rosebud gear knob and Jesus iconography on the rear-view mirror. Included (all original) are a spare wheel, engine hand crank, toolkit and lifting jack, which has been recently greased. I can include an illustrated colour manual, but it is in Russian and somewhat tatty.

- New battery
- New headlight bulbs
- New indicator stalk
- New ignition switch
- New door locks (comes with 2 keys)
- Hazard lights (aftermarket of course) installed
- Fuse block upgraded to modern, euro-type one
- New 3-point seatbelts in the front (aftermarket)
- New 12v cigarette lighter socket fitted (aftermarket)
- New washer pump, reservoir & 12v switch (aftermarket)
- Durable rubber floor mats
- White wheel hubs could benefit from repainting
- Original leather seats and leather door cards
- Chrome bumpers
- Rear-view mirror on BOTH left and right side! (thus not original, but matching)

An aftermarket fan is also installed on the passenger windscreen (which technically means the car now has dual-zone climate control). Underneath the tiger-print covers are the original red leather seats, which have previously seen repair work but overall are very attractive. The front seats fold all the way back flat. The pivoting side windows are my favourite feature as they let in a generous breeze. An aftermarket radio was previously installed and has since been removed, as it was cheap and faulty; I am including the original radio which has been slotted in place for aesthetics but has not been connected. The heater/ cooler works on both settings, hot (fast) and hot (faster).

I've had the car lifted and inspected: she is virtually rust-free, thanks to a responsible owner providing regular serviced and kept her garaged. The roads in Ukraine are not salt treated either in winter. There are a couple spots of rust appearing, such as on the front right jacking point, but nothing major. The horn has been disconnected: there is a short to ground somewhere (resulting in the horn staying on even when not pressed down). It can be heard working if required. If I have time, I will have a look to see if I can identify where this short is, or leave it to the new owner to tinker with.

Rear right passenger window winding mechanism doesn’t like being used, but the winder still works. The car appears to have been previously painted. There are a few scratches to the paint on the bodywork, which have previously been masked with a non-matching correction kit - the colour is quite close but not ideal. Not noticeable from afar.

Reason for sale: I am building surveillance drones for the army and need the funds. I have a motorhome now and this car is too nice to be left standing without use. Thank you for looking. Any questions, please get in touch. I am the second owner from new, having bought her from her previous owner in Lviv, Ukraine - an elderly gentleman that had her from new in 1976, using her primarily for “mushroom foraging trips and visiting his Mrs” but is now too old to drive himself. The gentleman had the car serviced with the same mechanic throughout her lifetime. A service of the engine has been carried out several years back - there is evidence of new gaskets around the engine and manual fuel pump. All the usual service items were carried out upon purchase last year - filters, oil, sparks. The car is due for its annual service around now - I will leave the pleasure of doing this to the new owner. I will include a new oil filter and a few spare liquids.

In Krakow I had the Lada inspected by a mechanic who had a career converting Ladas into rally cars. There, it had new ignition leads installed, as well as an overhaul of the distributor and the timing adjusted. The carburettor is original (Weber) but has recently had a few components replaced, including gaskets and a new upper section (no idea what it's called - the top part of the carb), as the previous top half was leaking fuel at the inlet. An electromagnetic idle control valve is installed, powered via a 12v lead from the ignition. The alternator has recently also been disassembled, inspected and cleaned.
