Description

This car is a 1958 MG Magnette ZB which is totally original never having been restored or welded. The paint is generally original but showing the patina of 66 years of use. The interior is all original including the seats, carpets and headlining. All the wood capping is original but the dash has been re-veneered in places and re-varnished. The chrome is original but is also showing the patina of old age.
The car has been totally restored mechanically and electrically. The original engine has been rebuilt by Skiptune, fully balanced with a Piper Fast Road Cam and the head modified for unleaded fuel. A Maniflo branch exhaust and large bore system has been fitted. The car has been set up on a rolling road to obtain the maximum power output to cope with modern traffic conditions. The gearbox has been rebuilt with new synchro on 2nd gear. The rear axle has been uprated by fitting a 3. 9:1 c. w. p. to give a more comfortable cruising speed. Brakes are still drum with new cylinders and linings all round and a brake servo has been fitted.
All the suspension bushes have been replaced and new front shock absorbers fitted. The ignition system has been uprated by the fitting of an electronic system. A new SU Fuel pump has been installed.
Electrically, the car has been totally rewired using a genuine Autosparks loom and all the lights have been fitted with LED bulbs. Although a flashing indicator system was fitted by a previous owner the semaphore arms are still fully operational. All the instrumentation is fully operational. I bought this car in June 2019 as I was looking for a 1950's four door saloon to complement my 1970 MG B GT. When I found Maggie near Oakham in Rutland it was love at first sight. When I discovered that she was totally original having only covered approximately 85000 miles from new I knew she had to be mine. She had been purchased new in 1958 by a Mr W Farrar who owned it until he died in 2013. She has subsequently had three further owners. I spent the next 4 years bringing her up to her present condition as described above.
She is known to the MG Car Club Magnette Register and has been on many adventures, travelling as far as Scotland and the West Country
Although I love driving her, old age (me, not the car) and the current traffic conditions means that she is not getting used properly, so it is time for her to pass on to a new keeper.
