DATE OF FIRST REGISTRATION: 5 APRIL 1972

HISTORY:
Invoiced on 24th March 1972 by Streamline Motorcycles of 523-533 Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, London to Mr George R Woods of "Delwood" Chislehurst Road, Chislehurst, Kent for the sum of £652. 15 (£170. 00 being allowed for a 1961 Triumph T16 Reg'n: SCF 450). (The original "green" log book, Purchase Invoice and first tax disc are still with the motorcycle).

Little is known about its early history until it was MOT tested on 23rd August 1999 at 1, 223 miles. However, it was apparently not used on the road and did not receive an updated V5 Registration Document, which would have been issued if it had been taxed. It is presumed that it had been in storage and that after the MOT it was put back into storage again.

Purchased in 2014, showing under 1, 300 miles, by Noel S*** (MD of S*** Investments Ltd., of Ripley Derbyshire) to add to his collection. It was in exceptionally good, original condition, albeit with faded paintwork and a dent to the tank (as can be see in the last photograph). He was told when purchasing the bike that the owner's son had accidentally dented the tank and the bike was kept in storage thereafter. History does not record what happened to the son - probably a large dent!

Mr S**** had to re-register the bike with the DVLA as it had not been transferred over to the new DVLA system in the early 1980's. (This is further evidence of long-term storage). They allowed the original registration to be retained, on a non-transferable basis and issued a new V5 accordingly.
Mr S**** is a perfectionist and wanted the bike "like new" (having had a new CB500/ 4 at the age of 15 on Malta, where it could be ridden at that age!). He instructed a local motorcycle restorer, Rob Shepperton, to refurbish it accordingly (Honda had recommended him to a Honda CBX owner for a restoration, his reputation being that high).
Rob reported that on receipt it was a supremely original, very low mileage bike, but with faded paintwork and engine casing lacquer.
He took it completely apart and on stripping the engine found no wear whatsoever, so cleaned and rebuilt, with no replacement parts being needed. The frame was repainted and of course, new tyres fitted. The mileage was NOT zeroed on completion, the original mileage being retained.
Mr S***** lightly used the bike, returning to Roy Jervis motorcycles several times for servicing. In 2021 he asked them to sell it for him, as not using it sufficiently, having a collection of other motorcycles.
Purchased by myself in February 2021 from Roy Jervis Motorcycles, but now for sale as due to advancing years, I can no longer ride a bike this size.
The £652. 15 purchase price in 1972 is equivalent to £11, 998 today, so transport yourself back to 1972 and get a 17% discount!
