Description
Here is my 1996 Citroën ZX, with the 1. 9 TD engine, in SX trim. According to the How Many Left website, this is the only one in this spec still on the road in the UK! I bought it in July 2022 as a running project, and all the major mechanical work has been done (detailed below), along with a couple of other smaller things. There is just one persistent issue which I haven't had any luck with so far (detailed below), meaning that it is mostly sitting unused, and so I think the time has come to move it on. That issue aside, the ZX is a fabulous car, far better than a 28-year-old diesel hatchback has any right to be, that flows along the road and has the softest seats I have ever sat in. Here are the good points and bad points:
The Good:
* Nearly a full year's MOT: expires 28. 06. 2025.
* For a ZX, it's very rust-free. Both garages it's been to have commented on how clean the underside is.
* The 2023 service included a new set of all-season tyres, a new radiator, a new timing belt, and a new water pump.
* Runs and drives beautifully.
* Returns 48 to the gallon on average, and I once saw as high as 60.
* Sits on a set of Volcane Alloys, and will come with the original steel wheels and hubcaps.
* The seats are in fantastic condition.
The Bad:
* The one real issue with this car is a faulty glow plug system. Sometimes it works just fine, sometimes it doesn't, and so you never know if it's going to start.
* The paintwork is pretty poor/ faded on several panels, and there are several dents in the bodywork.
* The sunroof pops up but will not slide back.
* The electrics in the passenger door are temperamental (a common ZX issue).
* The radio is code locked. The previous owner bought a code, but it was incorrect and the radio remains locked.
* The nearside mirror adjustment switch is loose.
* Not much paperwork from before my ownership.
