Description
Previously listed as a Light Six but now perceived to be the DE LUXE model and rare enough to be the only one known of. 'The Motor' journal of June 1930 refers to the Singer Light Six DE LUXE as 'A New Version of the Six-cylinder Model selling at a Moderate Price. Many Refinements and Excellent Equipment'.. ...'the following additions are available on the De Luxe model: A petrol gauge on the facia board, a thermometer on the radiator cap, a bulb horn, improved ventilators (including one in the roof), rubber covering for the steering knuckles, rubber pads on the pedals and (last but not least) servo-operated brakes."Purchased from the original owner in 1980 at which time an MOT was obtained after renewal of the king pins and leaf spring bushes/ pins. Since when it has been continuously garaged and travelled approximately 50 miles. The engine is regularly turned, the engine oils refreshed and greasing and rotation of various components refreshed to preserve the moving parts. Full restoration of the car has been a slow project (!) and as the second owner I would continue but for lack of space in which to continue the project.
The 'duplicate' 1946 log book records the engine size as 15. 7HP and the subsequent DVLA V5C obtained in 1980 shows the engine as 1939cc though subsequent correspondence with DVLA shows they believe 2057cc is the correct size. The engine is original to the car.
The interior lining was removed (available with car) in order to re-fabricate the sliding roof and check the ash frame and interior side of the aluminium body panels.
The chassis is intact and solid.
The car is complete (including rear and side widow roll down blinds, all interior fittings, world war 2 headlamp covers, suspension spring leather gaiters etc.) The wartime painting out of the side lights remains intact!
This car has many appealing features such as opening roof (refabricated to exact measurements and with materials as originally specified), opening windscreen, squeeze horn (and electric), restored solenoid activated dip beam reflector dish (near side), restored wood flooring (easily removable) and grease nipples on so many moving parts as to make servicing a DIY easy option!
The soft leather back seat with its pull-down blinds, reading lights and ceiling string vest newspaper rack, make it a very unique passenger travel experience - with ample room to stretch the legs. A unique car for weddings!
Outside at the rear is a pull out rack for picnic hamper or travel box.
The car is obviously MOT exempt and comes with original number plates, original log book and current V5c and the owner's knowledge of extensive works done since acquired in 1980 plus various documents handed over at purchase and collected since then.
