Description
Bought in 1981 from a RAF pilot, the car has been in my ownership for 43 years.
For the first few years it was used by my wife to commute, but soon became my fun car and has remained so to this day, sadly at the age of 86 I am forced to accept that it is no longer a practical car for me to drive. It needs to find a good home where it will be used and hopefully, cherished as it has been throughout my ownership.
No money has been spared in maintaining and upgrading it. Starting in 1992, a new ex-works chassis was fitted, replacing the rusted original. Then in 2006 my son and I undertook a “ nut and bolt” restoration of the complete drive-train, suspension, body, paint and the hood. The shell rebuild paid meticulous attention to rust prevention with Wax-oil being injected into all cavities and all the panels were assembled with wet underseal. Not withstanding the level of protection the car has always been garaged has been exposed to very little rain.
A T-5 cam was fitted during the engine rebuild as was an unleaded cylinder head, which has since been enhanced with the addition of the early, larger diameter, throttle bodies effectively raising the BHP to 150 rating.
In the last few years the car has had further work, been fitted lighter Borg Warner clutch, electronic ignition and hydraulic power-steering. The engine has undergone a further overhaul involving a crank regrind, shells, valves, springs, fuel metering unit and a new fuel system from the tank forward. The seats have had new foams and covers. Apart from the cam, the car comes with all the components to covert her back to original.
Full tonneau and half tonneau are with the car.
Receipts are present covering the period I’ve owned the car.
This is undoubtedly an excellent example of the marque.
