Description

This is my superb NSU Sport Prinz, a 2+2 coupe based on the Prinz saloon from 1958. They are already a rare sight but this is an exceptional find, especially in its UK market guise. The rear mounted 600cc SOHC engine is very capable and well engineered, with less regular maintenance required compared to other vehicles of the time like the Imp, Mini, 500 or 2CV. In my ownership there has been a large amount of mechanical work undertaken along with small cosmetic pieces in an effort to improve the originality of the car which has already been well retained after its restoration in the late 1990s. The car is also provided with a folder of relevant and original paperwork and a box that is positively overflowing with spare parts! The car has recently returned from a flawless 600 mile roundtrip to Le Mans for the 24 Heures which is a testament to its useability and reliability. Always happy to answer any queries over a phone call or otherwise, and can arrange a viewing quite readily. Open to offers and I would also consider a selection of cars in part exchange - anything pre-war or an older Citroën would be looked upon very fondly. During my search for an NSU Ro80 I found that the examples in the UK were a little above my budget at the time, but this car was listed for sale under the NSU marque. After some research I decided this would be a much more intriguing choice and more reliable as it has a conventional reciprocating engine rather than the later NSU Wankel for which they are so infamous. Despite its relatively simple engine layout, contempary to the Fiat 500, the gearbox is located in the sump and the overhead camshaft is driven by a set of conrods. It also features a combined starter generator, supplied by Bosch (Dynastart). The drivetrain is ingenious, well packaged, reliable and very well built. This is reason enough to purchase the original Prinz but the Sport, designed by Franco Scaglione at Bertone, has an exterior which is frankly a work of art. The interior is a comfortable and surprisingly practical space to match which has been reupholstered during the car's restoration.
