Toyota Rav4, first generation 1996 2. 0L Manual. 103, 000 miles
MOT - which has no advisories and runs out in 2nd Feb 2025
I bought this less than 3 months ago with the intention to restore to as new as these are soon to be a modern classic. I wanted a car well known for its reliability, solid engine and that simple to work on, which is exactly what this is. I now need to sell due to work commitments.
Work done / good bits:
New CAT and full exhaust
Period accurate roof rack
Tow Bar
Full service around 2000 miles ago, all filters and plugs
New discs and pads
Majority of the break lines have been replaced
New windscreen
I have new rear springs, shocks and arms included in the sale.
Lovely rare metallic turquoise paint
Bumpers are in great condition and still black
Tires have only done around 2000 miles. The spare is brand new.

Areas for improvement:
The speakers are very crackly, either the speakers are no good or the cabling is loose. The CD and Radio work fine.
While the paint is nice there are plenty of small scratches and dings. There is 1 main dent in the rear passenger side quarter. Some small rust spots.
The windscreen wipers park slightly too high up the screen, it could be that they are on the wrong side or have just slipped position over the years. I am going to work on this to see if I can rectify it.
The electric windows switch panel on the driver door is from a newer model but works correctly.
The driver and passenger door latch surround is cracked. Doesn't affect door opening mechanism
The only body rust underneath is on the seam of one of the rear wheel arch where mud collects
The alloy wheels are quite corroded
A reluctant sale due to work commitments and I will be occasionally driving. I will also be continuing to work on the cosmetics jobs of the car while it is up for sale, and depending on the work I do I will be raising the price to reflect the improvements.
I've been very accurate and detailed with the description and photos, but please get in touch with any questions. I have loads of photos so message me if you want anything in particular. I chose this particular Rav4 as future investment because finding the 5 door in a manual is getting harder and harder so its more likely to become a sort after classic. This example is mechanically sound, the body is solid and it already had all major services done as well as being generally really well looked after.
This car has some great features like the locking rear diff, roof rack, and tow bar. Starts first time every time, drives, pulls and stops great, steering is sharp and accurate and tracks straight.
The history of the car goes something along the lines of:
The first owner or 2 put the majority of the miles on the car until the early 2000s, after which it was stored indoors at a college as a demo / teaching aid for many years. After that it covered about 3000 miles over 3 years by the owner whom I bought it from. He also did a lot of major servicing and maintenance. The fact that it was stored inside for year probably saved this car from rusting out like the majority of the examples left today. I've put on around 600miles.
