Description

Here for sale is my 1972 MGB GT.

Overall, the car is in very good condition for the year and runs and drives beautifully.

BODYWORK
The bodywork is in very good condition and the paintwork extremely bright. I believe the dark blue is officially a Rover colour and has been restored in the past. A few very minor imperfections on the paintwork, but no rust anywhere to note. I have tried to show this in the photographs, so please inspect them carefully. Headlight surrounds are very good, as is the bulkhead below the windscreen and the rear wings. Sills are very solid, and doors are fantastic. Could be taken to near concours standard, but I like to use it and enjoy it whilst also keeping it well cleaned. Nice glass sunroof which opens and shuts, and doesn’t leek! (Not a Webasto).

Door shuts are good, as is the bonnet and boot with no issues to report.

Chrome is all excellent with an lovely shine and really sets the car off nicely. Honeycomb grill and rostyle wheels give it a nice authentic 1970s look. Wheels are in good condition but could be repainted if the new owner desires. 4 new Continental tyres fitted about a year ago.

UNDERSIDE
Chassis is totally solid and has been undersealed for protection again the elements.

ENGINE & MECHANICALS
Engine bay is very clean and tidy and it runs very well indeed. Great oil pressure and revs up very responsively. Nice engine note and exhaust sounds great. Suspected high lift cam and lightened flywheel, but not 100 percent sure as work was carried out before the previous owner. 4 speed gearbox with overdrive is lovely to operate, and overdrive switch works nicely on 3rd & 4th which really helps with cruising. Easily keeps up with modern traffic. Starts easily with a small amount of choke. I had an MOT done when I bought the car for peace of mind which was when quite a lot of the new parts were fitted (see below).

INTERIOR
Interior presents very well and is nice place to be. Seats are in good condition and have evidently been recovered in the past. All gauges work and dashboard and centre console are in good condition. Speedo reads slightly under, but all lights, fan and interior lights works as they should. Clock has a mind of its own! Headlining is good, sun visors are alright but could be redone in desired. Carpet is nice in general, but could be redone too if fussy, as it’s a little untidy just on the edges, in places. Nice MG sill cover plates and rubber mats. Door cards are good, as is the back seat. Boot also good and surprisingly spacious for luggage. Full size spare wheel underneath.

New parts in my ownership:
Genuine SU Fuel Pump (high pressure) and filter, just fitted
Front suspension overhaul including springs, wishbone arms, bushes, link arms etc.
Carburettors off, cleaned and reassembled
4x new Continental tyres
New fuel sender (so the gauge now works)
All new fuel lines from tank to carbs, tuned by MG specialist including new needles and balance
Full underseal
New air filters
Exhaust back box
An assortment of new bulbs and hoses to replace broken ones
2x new seatbelts
Electrical isolator – operated with key hidden underneath passenger side dashboard
New battery
Dashboard repaint
New sparkplugs and leads
Recent complete valet inside and outI have owned the car for just over 18 months and have enjoyed it on sunny days and trips abroad, and it’s now time for me to get a more practical and larger car. Driven to Le Mans Classic last year with no issues, and multiple long trips to Sheffield/ further afield with no problems either. Driven regularly and always garaged.

This is a good, honest MGB ready to use for the summer. Please be aware this is an old car and comes with character and patina, but in general it’s a very good one. Please inspect pictures carefully. Viewing and collection from West Sussex.
