Description

Exceptional condition survivor 1979 build pre-production, single No. 8 digit, matching numbers Honda SC03 CBX1000. Unrestored and fully date coded. One of only a handfull known-to-exist numbers matching CBX1000.

Bullet points for collectors, all work listed below was performed in January/ February of 2024:
- [ ] Bike was an italian delivery when new, ED spec. model with the ED spec original Sankei exhaust system in exceptionally good condition
- [ ] Bike was owned by an italian vehicle company as first owner and most likely used as a display bike or press bike of some sort
- [ ] Previous italian owner had the bike parked for 2 decades in a window as a display bike we were told
- [ ] Bike is/ was registered with the italian classic vehicle society
- [ ] Most date codes are from February & March of 1979 when production of the regular SC03 model had not started yet
- [ ] Engine was build at the factory with CB1 alternator, CB1 clutch, CB1 valve cover and bolts as well as CB1 four row oil cooler. Engine has the original and unmolested Number pad behind cylinder number 5/ six with the correct letter and number combo for the SC03 model reading SC03E-2000008
- [ ] All original date coded parts come with the bike including the original brake-lines with the date codes stamped in. Mounted are black teflon lines for better brake performance
- [ ] Entire bike was partially disassembled, cleaned and hand washed with soap and water and reassembled with all its original fasteners with proper JIS tools.
- [ ] Frame paint is the original paint and frame has the original factory vin tag present, with the factory rivets still in place and unmolested, swingarm paint and assorted attached brackets paint is all original as are all fasteners and brackets etc. The stamped in number in the steering head conforms to the vin tag plate with identical digits bordered by the X in a square box, all proper and unmolested
- [ ] Engine was fully serviced, complete with full 24-valve check and proper adjustment, ignition was checked, sparkplugs replaced, Oki's replaced due to leakage of the original ones (included), clutch basket was removed and updated with new rubber cushions (thank you Bert from Six Center in Holland), clutch discs were cleaned, checked and reassembled
- [ ] Carburetors are the VB61 CB1 spec set and were partially disassembled, ultra sound cleaned, serviced and reassembled using new Honda rebuild kits. Intake manifolds were replaced and original clamps were cleaned and reused. Airbox manifold rubbers were in excellent, soft condition, cleaned and reused. Airbox expansion chamber is a SC03/ CB1 combination unit with CB1 housing without riveted on fold over securing clamp, top is the SC03 top with the raised notch for the securing clamp
- [ ] Wire harness is the 422 CB1 tagged unit and was removed and cleaned including all attachment plugs and connectors and re-installed properly
- [ ] Toolbox mounted to rear subframe rails is made from satin black painted laminated material, not from ABS plastic like used in the regular production version of the SC03
- [ ] Front fender, tank, tailpiece and side covers were properly repainted in the original candy glory red
- [ ] Seat is the original date coded part, cover was replaced with correct pattern and material cover, trim pieces are the original trim aluminum pieces with the original aluminum rivets.
- [ ] Forks are the original SC03 air supported forks with new seals installed
- [ ] Original brake rotors were cleaned and centers repainted
- [ ] Front and rear mastercylinders were rebuild, front master reservior replaced with new original clear unit from Honda. All cables were replaced with new Honda units such as throttle, choke, clutch, speedo and rev counter
- [ ] Tires are out of date and if the bike is used on the road they should be changed but were not neccessary to be replaced for our display use of the bike
- [ ] proper export documentation in our name from Italy, italian title document
- [ ] Original mileage is only 48k Kilometers ( 29k miles) The condition of the mechanical components throughout the bike shows it to have been ridden very civilised and without any harsh treatment. Cams look nearly like new, timing chain adjusters are in excellent condition, road rash on the engine front is very limited. All things considered the bike looks more like a 15k km bike all around. Note: The bike as shown in the images has been fitted with a replacement speedometer due to the original one needing to be serviced because the needle had come loose. The original unit is included with the bike of course.
