History : Story I’ve been told is it started life in UK as a Land Rover demonstrator and then spent some time at Malta Airport ( hence Safari Roof ) before coming back to the UK near Newcastle. In 1993 John B a horse farmer purchased it and for the next 2yrs his friend Cliffy hounded him to sell it to him. Cliffy also a farmer who fixed local farmers tractors etc as a second business then upgraded the engine to a 1987 2. 5 TD around 1997. Unfortunately Cliffy fell ill and the Landy spent 8yrs dry stored in a Barn before John B, after 28yrs, helped Cliffy’s family sell it, to me. I am the 3rd owner in last 31yrs. I have worked on it for 6 months with a Land Rover specialist and also enjoyed it. It has had new starter motor, new Radiator, new front hubs and brakes, new rear shocks, strong Army Wolf Wheels with 7. 50 tyres – Starts 1st timeI was looking to start my Land Rover story with a series 3 as they are strong, reliable and parts are readily available without breaking the bank. This 52yr old has so much history and dry stored for 8yrs that I felt secure buying it from a real gent John. Wasn't expecting to find a red one but glad that I did, also the Safari roof is very rare.
Mechanically very good, strong, and galvanised chassis has been a bonus. The jobs I've been able to do include cleaning the seats & finding the Wolf Wheels and working as a goffa for the Specialist Garage in Shepperton who fitted the new parts and tested the rest. Also to deter theft it has a Battery Isolator switch
The remaining jobs to do might be to fit the new seat belt kit that comes with it ( but I'm told not to do it as lots of fans will want the original belts which are still usable ) You might want to fit a Radio as it already has rear speakers, you might want to fit a cigar socket and/ or USB charger but I decided not too after taking advice. I have however fitted a modern blade fuse box in dash to make these easy to fit.
