Description
1928 Morris Cowley Pickup
In "oily rag" condition. Its perfectly useable condition, or you could take it too the next level and really make it nice. It was confirmed to me by an ex BBC props director that it was used in All Creatures Great and Small (Hence Jeff Mallock, Darrowby etc on the doors). The Morris factory build record shows it was made in October 1928 as a saloon.
It runs and drives nicely.
Bought by myself and my father in 2015 as a project having no ID and needing quite a few parts and attention. We were told that the clutch had been replaced, and the magneto refurbished. It still had pre-war tyres on the front! We have no real history beyond the above, but believe it was cut down to a pickup during the war for petrol vouchers and was parked up in a barn in East Anglia from the 1960s until it was auctioned by Cheffins im 2014.
It was registered with DVLA, all the dashboard instruments etc obtained, new tyres (2015/ 16), a new radiator core was fitted (2016/ 17) and quite a bit of time effort and money bestowed on it to bring it to a useable standard.
Known issues are that the speedo isn't working (the cable has broken), the dynostart doesn't charge (its not been wired up). The wiper is not connected (but its unlikely you will want to use it in the rain anyway!)
Overall a pretty and unusual vehicle, either to use as is, restore or to use for advertising/ film work etc.
Whatever you want to do with it - its a cheap way in to vintage motoringThis is a 1928 Model Year Cowley.
Made in October 1928 it is one of the first 1928 model year cars, and (last time I checked, based on chassis number in parts lists) its the earliest known Cowley with the "high level" headlights introduced in October '28.
Conversely its also the oldest Cowley with the earlier style dash and wheel driven speeometer! For the purists - its a very intersting hybrid from the factory.
At some point it has had an earlier engine fitted - which runs nicely. It has been to a number of shows and events including the NEC classic car show etc.ì
