Description
1911 Napier 15HP ‘Colonial’
Registration No - SV6604
Chassis No - 10608
Engine No - 17996
Introduced in 1910 as a more affordable option to the 6 Cylinder models the 15HP was Napiers most successful model. It could be purchased for £350 in chassis form or for an extra £80, with Napiers four seat coachwork. For an extra £7, a windshield could be added. The Autocar magazine purchased a 1910 15HP Napier and immediately drove the car 1, 700 miles throughout a tour of France. Commenting that the they had no mechanical bother whatsoever.
This example was fantastically restored in the 1990s by a previous custodian in Ireland. During its time there, it participated in many rallies including the Gordon Bennett. Presented in traditional Napier Green, with Acetylene lamps, spare wheel, hood and wire wheels, the car looks very well today.
The 2. 9 Litre, four cylinder engine provides an excellent power delivery and propels the car to around 50MPH very comfortably. The car has capacity for 7 persons to travel, meaning it is an excellent touring vehicle for those with a large family or plenty of willing friends.
Recent works have been completed by NP Veteran Engineering and the car received a brand new set of wire spoked wheels and tyres at a cost of almost £8, 000 in 2021. Serviced in May 2024 at which time the magneto was also rewound, the Napier is ready to use and on the button with its electric starting.
Napiers are highly respected in the Veteran Circles and this colonial model is a large, imposing car that is ready to use immediately. The car is offered for sale including VCC Dating certificate, meaning it can be used on any UK VCC events and is complete with V5C Document and history file.
