Description

1970 Triumph Trophy T100C Competition 500cc

This is a matching numbers 1970 Triumph Trophy T100C Competition 500cc. It is an original and unrestored example except where it has been essential either to return it to original specification or work has been advisable.

It is a real survivor and finding these bikes in original condition is increasingly difficult. There are many “restored” ones out there but not many left in stock condition with original paint.

The competition machine varies in a number of ways from the road going T100R and this bike retains all of those original features, for example wide ratio gearbox, folding front foot rests, sump guard, Stainless Steel mudguards, a small headlamp, trail tyres and the iconic high level pipes.

It is now on first oversize Harris pistons that have done less than 500 miles. A new original spec Amal Carburettor was fitted to correct a slightly erratic tick over. New good quality trails tyres have been fitted recently to retain the original spec. It is fitted with a twin leading shoe brake. Brake shoes are good. I’ve not looked at the rear ones. Header exhausts are original, the two silencers I think are replaced with correct spec including the stock mesh panel to avoid burning your leg! It even retains all the original cross head screws holding the engine casings on.

The paint work is correct and original, it is now 54 years old and while it has no damage in terms of dents or major scratches, it is showing the patina of age. For me this adds to the look of the bike. The wheels are also original, with Dunlop rims (the chrome is not perfect with just a little surface rust in a few places)

The bike starts easily and runs very well. You occasionally need to make sure it engages between 3rd and 4th gear / 4th and 3rd but generally its fine and totally easy to ride.

It is an honest, well maintained and cared for 54 old machine that retains the charm and originality of its age. I have the USA spec original handbook, a 70’s manual and the original advert that was in dealers in the USA in June 1970. I have two sets of keys for both the ignition and working steering lock.

If you would like any further information then please ask. I will only accept payment by bank transfer and obviously that is to be completed prior to the collection of the bike. Matching numbers. Mainly original and unrestored but very clean for its age. It is a real honest survivor in totally stock form. Finding these bikes in original condition is increasingly difficult.

This model was a USA export and brought back to this country within the last ten years.

The bike is UK registered on a 1970 'H' suffix plate, the V5 is in my name. It is MOT exempt and the road tax is free. This is a very practical classic machine, with good spares availability and is a joy to ride. I have barely ridden the bike in the four years that I have owned it.
