Description

1972 Alfa Romeo GT 1600 Junior

French blue bodywork over tan interior.

51, 282 KM (31, 865 Miles), very low mileage example.

1570cc 4 cylinder engine, producing circa 110 BHP, and 140Nm.

5 speed manual gearbox with synchromesh.

Imported by myself from South Africa during 2023, with all import duties, NOVA and clearances completed and paid for. The vehicle is offered for sale with a UK V5C document, which will be transferred into a new owners name.

This Alfa Romeo benefits from a set of genuine Momo Vega 14" alloy wheels, and the tyres have plenty of tread left on all 4 corners.

Viewing is gladly welcomed, and in fact encouraged so that a full sense of the car can be gathered by any interested parties.

Vehicle condition is as follows:

Engine and drivetrain - 10/ 10. The car pulls strongly through all gears, carburettors are correctly set up and it fires up smartly without the need for choke. All 5 forward gears and reverse can be selected with ease, no crunching or grinding, due in no small part to the low mileage and great order of the drive train.

Interior - 8/ 10. Amazing if you consider that this car is 52 years old, but the seats, floor mats, and door cards are in gorgeous condition. The dashboard has some of the characteristic cracking that happens in dry climates with all of these cars, but this one really has not suffered too badly all things considered!

Bodywork - 7/ 10. While this car is showing little to no signs of visible rust, there are a few panels which have suffered from micro-blistering (caused by tiny amounts of moisture underneath the paint which then react with the humid air. Commonly this occurs as a result of the time the cars spend in the container at sea during their transportation to the UK, and I believe that is the case here. Very difficult to photograph (I have tried!), but I'd welcome a viewing for this to be seen. The far more important elements, such as structural components, floors, scuttles, A-pillars, doors etc are all rust free as you would hope for a dry climate car, and the bodywork is excellent, straight and honest.

Electrical - 7/ 10. There are a few electrical gremlins which this car would benefit from having addressed - the wipers and horn have stopped working but lights, indicators, brake lights etc are all functioning correctly.

I'm happy to answer any questions about the car of course, but to pre-empt a few:

Reason for sale - I actually imported a couple of cars from South Africa at the same time, but I have unfortunately had a change in my storage arrangements, and very soon I won't have a dry safe garage to keep this one. My focus will be elsewhere so without storage for this car it doesn't make sense to keep it when somebody else could be enjoying it!

Service history - I bought this car without service history. Very common on South African cars that documents are not kept with the vehicle over its lifespan. I am happy to provide what I can, which are the UK V5C of course, some South African registration documents, and a couple of invoices for work I have had completed on the car recently. It is evident from the car itself that the condition is fantastic, and I'm always happy to buy a car on condition rather than associated paperwork.

Viewings - Can be arranged in Sarratt, Hertfordshire. If you'd like to see the car, please get in touch.
