The Appeal
Introduced in 1974, the Golf was a game-changer for Volkswagen. While they had made their name with quirky rear-engined, air-cooled cars, VW demonstrated that they could build a hatchback just as well, if not better than anybody else. Alongside petrol and GTi models, a 1. 5-litre diesel variant was first offered in 1976 and was later uprated to 1. 6-litres in 1980. Here we have one such example from 1982 which is in fantastic shape.
Imported from Croatia and UK-registered since November 2023, this left-hand-drive Golf has obviously lived a charmed life, as it’s survived far better than most of this vintage. It’s rare to find the diesel model and as a frugal classic daily driver, it makes a lot of sense, benefitting from mechanical fuel injection and impressive MPG figures. The bodywork was comprehensively restored a few years ago and it continues to present impeccably. Exempt from ULEZ, road tax and MOT testing, this car is ready to go. Since owning this vehicle I have added coilovers, rear lights, chrome front grille trim, blaupunkt bluetooth stereo and brand new 15" ROTA wheels. Its had a full service including new brakes, oil change, timing belt, fuel filter, oil filter, air filter, new battery.
I have attended a few VW shows and it has been faultless, driving perfect on motorways and B roads alike. Only reason i'm selling the car is to fund a house move.
The car needs nothing and is ready to use and enjoy.
