Description

After trying for sometime to sell my Jeep, I decided to get the chassis/ tub underside rubbed down with the intention of rust protecting it. Unfortunately within no time more rust and holes it the torque boxes were found - this was at the rear but the front does appear better ! Anyway we stopped the work while waiting on prices for the repairs - and welding that will need to be done in order to pass an MOT. Given that I’ve spent so much already (it must stand me around 10k) I really don’t want to spend any more so are prepared to listen to sensible offers now - This must be one of the last Wrangler TJ models registered. Up until August last year it had one owner from new. That owner part exchanged it for an older military jeep and I bought it off the second owner in January. To be honest, I bought the Jeep unseen as it was in Scotland and I’m on the south coast ! I realised that wasn’t quite as expected when it was delivered!

Happy to discuss that in more detail but to keep a long story short it wasn’t as described. I took it to a proper local Jeep specialist for a full service and a health check which showed up quite a lot of work to bring it up to standard - as the family were going to be driving it, I had all the items addressed along with a few others bits too - I have bills for circa £3500 of parts and work I wasn’t expecting. This work included a full service, new discs and pads on the front, new drum assembly’s and shoes on the back, 2 x NTK O2 sensors replaced, front UJs and one ball joint replaced, track rods cleaned up, greased and adjusted, new front wiper motor and a Bosch fuel pump (when the tank was dropped, the surrounding area was rubbed down, rust protection applied and the bolts all greased) in addition there a exhaust bracket fixed.

Anyway, we have been using the Jeep almost daily and it has done well over a 2000 trouble free miles since and is driving as a Jeep should - there’s nothing better in the summer with the roof off in my opinion.

I’m pretty sure some areas of rust will need addressing for the MOT, I did buy 2 new replacement wings for it (another £380 on top of the other money spent) these need painting and fitting but do come with the vehicle. Also there is rust bubbling under both doors, this has previously been disguised by a quick bodge job before I bought it. I think the best way to deal with this is to cut out and weld in new flat sheet steel although repair panels, various repair kits, brackets etc are all available from the States. The tailgate has some rust at the bottom and the inside of the windscreen has a rust hole - the body shop I have used in the past again suggested cutting it out and welding in new steel.

If you’re practical and can weld or know someone who can then this is a steal in my opinion as a really nice one seems to fetch 10-14k

Mot’d until October, just the perfect summer transport and the sound of the 4 litre straight six is just the icing on the cake !

Cutting my genuine losses on this as I never intended or expected spending this much money on it in the first place, If it doesn’t sell I probably will stick a cover over it and get the work done in the future.

Viewing welcome, I’m down in the New Forest so you could easily tie something else in and make a day of it . Please though no stupidly low offers, it’s just a waste of everyone’s time.
