Description
Here for sale (regrettably) is our very impressive 1936 Morris 16/ 6.
We purchased the car around 2-3years ago after it had been part of a nut and bolt restoration and then it throwing a rod.
Since then we have fitted a good second hand engine and carried out a lot of work. She is now for sale with just a few bits required to get it perfect.
+ Good S/ H engine sourced, stripped and cleaned, new pistons fitted, new headgasket, very good white metal bearings (which is also shown in the fantastic oil pressure), new tappet lifters, all new valves and valve seats re-machined. (2062cc Straight Six)
+ Matching tyres with excellent tread (including the spare under the rear cover).
+ Restored spoked wheels.
+ Absolutely stunning art-deco interior all fully re-trimmed.
+ Very imposing – please don’t be fooled by the photos, this is a large and impressive car!
+ Spotless undercarriage.
+ Excellent brakes that pull you up straight and true (some of the best brakes I have ever had in a vintage car).
+ Lovely two-tone paintwork.
+ Stunning and mark-free headlining.
+ V5c here and in our name.
+ Folder bursting full of information, invoices, photos and manuals.
+ We also have photos of this car pre-restoration to show just how solid it was/ is.
+ Original hand air pump, starting handle, 4 post jacking system etc.
+ Excellent clutch and gearbox.
+ Front opening windscreen.
+ Known car to the very good Morris Owners Club.
Left to do:
- Paintwork is very presentable but does have some marks from storage and some orange peel on the bonnet.
- We have been on some nice long runs with the car and it will cruise at 45-50mph but the engine still feels a bit sluggish, we think a damn good tune up and possibly looking at the carb/ dizzy would release a lot more power. Something for the new owner to tinker with.
- Split in one of the rear wings near the bottom – repairable.
- Sunroof is all there but no opening mechanism! This was done by the restorer and we aren’t sure why, but we were told its all there.
- Indicators could do with being replaced with something more discrete.
- Horn needs re-assembling (we have the parts).
- Current speedo not connected as its broken but the car comes with a spare (plus lots of other spares!).
- Few bits left to connect like choke cable etc.
So all in all this is a very very rare early Morris that is very impressive in size, sound and driving style. All the shows we have entered this into have immediately accepted us with usually a note stating they had to google the car as they didn’t know they existed and are always keen to have it attend.
With a few weekend worth of tinkering I am sure this will be looking and driving its best and will provide a lot of enjoyment for the new owner. We sadly just have too many projects and are starting to realise that this is one we don’t have enough time for.
