‘Time warp’ Mk1 Escort Estate 1. 3 L ( May 1972)
The now deceased owner purchased this in May 1972 and only covered 72k miles before family garaged it, unused for 24 years – last tax disc dated April 1999. I discovered car in January, so registered it as historic with DVLA. Being 52 years old and having stood for so long, the usual Mk1 corrosion repair areas were attended to, then new sills & rear arches were professionally fitted. A full respray followed in original ‘Burgundy cherry’ – the car is now very very shinny ! Interior was ‘time-warp’ good with headlining totally unmarked – owner was obviously not a smoker. There is a small ( 1cm) patched cut on driver’s seat plus original carpet in wheel well area needs attention, otherwise interior is pristine and all original. Car drives absolutely perfectly.
Being an Estate model there is the high compression engine, front discs and servo brakes. A genuine appreciating asset, as it appears that there only 18 of this model and year left on UK roads – so rarer than any 2 or 4 door saloon and a potential show winner.
Much more space than a modern hatchback, zero tax, £ 91 fully comp insurance, plus no need for MOT !A very practical appreciating asset, with show winning potential
