Full nut and bolt rebuild and converted to RS1800 Road / Race SpeckPurchased by the previous owner builder in 2018 as a standard XR2 with just 13k miles on the clock. The car was stripped to a bare glass out shell it was a lovely rot-free shell and no welding was needed the roof rails were removed and filed in, the door locks shaved and central locking fitted a gen vented RS bonnet plus a full respray in Arctic white and blue decals, As the build was to put the car in regular road trim but also to be used for serious weekend track days some level of comfort and easy access was desired, so just a half roll cage was fitted and RS interior trim, RS dash and 150 MPH speedo, RS Recaro seats along with genuine RS wood rim steering wheel plus extra instruments and switches.
Now came the serious stuff All the following parts listed were either brand new or rebuilt units:- RS 1800 cylinder block (std bore) Forged flat top 10. 5-1 pistons, Steel H section conrods with comp bolts, Steel Crank, Comp oil pump, lightened steel flywheel with comp clutch, RS 1800 head and cams, Full Omex fuel injection with Jenvy throttle body and Omex mappable ECU. Custom four-branch exhaust manifold, Custom 4" stainless exhaust, MK4 RS Turbo gearbox with LSD, Avo fully adjustable Coilovers all round plus poly bushed and rose jointed with comp bottom radius arms and rear axle beam, front and rear strut braces, 2x full harness and fire extinguisher, Cosworth front vented, drilled discs and callipers mounted on custom uprights with oversize wheel bearings, front and rear green stuff pads. Rear RS 2000 disc brake conversion, Compomotive 15" comp alloys with Yokohamas all round. There are lots of other mods (too many to list) that all make this a very special fantastic road or track day car. The build has resulted in a car that can be driven with ease on a daily basis but if needed with a rev-limit of 8000 RPM It goes like stink with handling and braking to match and sounds awesome. Due to the original builder's demise shortly after the build the car was in dry storage for some considerable time so has hardly been used, it has covered under 1000 miles from the build completion so just nicely run-in The car has never as yet seen a race track. In the original build, the engine was fitted with a very special full race ported and gas flowed big valve head and full race Piper Cams with lightweight race followers with "Piller Shims" plus Piper Vernia cam wheels. However for me, this build was too radical for road use as no power under 4500 rpm.
So I have just fully recommissioned the car with fully synthetic oils, new oil and fuel filters, NGK plugs, Varta battery, and fitted a standard RS1800 Re-cond head and cams (at the asking price I will include all the very expensive full race parts in this sale) There is lots of history with this car which is just too long to list here but if genuinely interested please call or email me for further details.
