The Alfa Romeo GTV and Spider models, known to enthusiasts as 'Tipo 916', were produced between 1993 and 2004. The GTV, short for 'Gran Turismo Veloce', was a sporty coupé, while the Spider was designed for comfortable open-top driving. Interestingly, Jeremy Clarkson, a well-known figure in the automotive world, described the GTV in the late 1990s as one of the best sports cars of its time!
The design of the GTV and Spider models was the work of Enrico Fumia from Pininfarina. The GTV harked back to the successful GTV models of the 1960s and 70s, cars that had firmly established Alfa Romeo’s reputation. Both models were based on an existing platform from the Fiat Group ('Tipo Due') and featured a newly designed multilink rear suspension. The front suspension was derived from the Alfa Romeo 155.
The design, with its characteristic dual round headlights and 'Kammback' rear end, still looks fresh and timeless today. At launch, journalists were impressed by the build quality, which rivaled that of contemporary German competitors.
The first series of the GTV was offered with a 2. 0 Twin Spark four-cylinder or the 2. 0 V6 Turbo shown here, while the Spider was available only with the 2. 0 Twin Spark or 3. 0 V6. From 1997, the GTV also received the 3. 0 V6, and the 1998 facelift included more color-matched exterior accents and a refreshed interior. The final facelift in 2003 introduced a new front end, inspired by the Alfa 147, and a new 3. 2 V6 engine, giving the car a top speed of 255 km/ h. After nearly ten years in production, this series was succeeded by the Brera in 2005 and the new Spider model in 2006.
Offered by HooG Selections, this Alfa Romeo GTV, featuring the fantastic-sounding 2. 0 'Busso' V6 with turbo, dates back to 1995 and is finished in a timeless color combination of metallic gray with a black leather interior. Delivered new on October 29, 1995, by the official Alfa Romeo dealer 'Pole Position' in Modena, Italy, this GTV spent nearly its entire life in its homeland before being imported to the Netherlands by us.
What makes this GTV special is its completely overhauled engine, ensuring that the technology, alongside the pristine condition of the interior and exterior, is in excellent shape. Just opening the hood is a delight, revealing the beautifully chromed intake manifolds, a classic feature of this 'Busso' V6.
Accompanied by a filled maintenance book, the car's condition attests to the long distances it has covered.
