We've got him!
In 1986, Alfa Romeo became part of the Fiat group and was facing significant image problems at the time. To restore its image, the connection with Alfa Romeo's rich sports car history was emphasized, and a uncompromising sports car was developed together with Zagato in the late 1980s. At the Geneva Motor Show in 1989, Zagato presented the first prototype of the SZ under the name ES-30, an experimental sports car with a 3. 0-liter engine.
However, the design of the car did not come entirely from Zagato. Alfa Romeo's Centro Stile, with Walter de'Silva and Alberto Bertelli, and Fiat's Centro Stile, with Robert Opron, were also involved in designing the new sports car. The main lines of the SZ ultimately came from Robert Opron and Antonio Castellana. The car's appearance was controversial and completely different from all other Alfa Romeo models of that time, earning the SZ the nickname "il mostro" (the monster).
Alfa Romeo decided to put the ES-30 into production and changed the name to SZ, referring to the Sprint Zagatos of the past. The mechanical components, including the shortened chassis, were based on the Alfa Romeo 75. Zagato was responsible for the assembly. Only about a thousand SZs would be produced, all in the typical Alfa red (Rosso Alfa) with a dark gray roof. The SZ's engine is a 3. 0-liter V6 with a maximum power output of 210 hp and 245 Nm of torque. The power is transmitted to the road via the rear wheels, enabling a top speed of approximately 250 km/ h and a 0-100 km/ h sprint in 7 seconds. The SZ was produced until 1991.
This beautiful example was newly delivered in the summer of 1990, specifically on 25-05-1990. It is number 27 out of the total 1, 000 units ever built. We don't need to tell you that it is a unique car, but we do need to mention that its condition is exceptional. Both technically and cosmetically, it is a beautiful and original example. The SZ has been to specialist Auto Forza in Noordwijkerhout for a comprehensive check, major maintenance, and additional mileage verification. Are you looking for an SZ? Then you must see this one. We warmly invite you to visit us in Katwijk to experience this Alfa Romeo in person—the coffee is ready!
