Description

Triumph TR6C Trophy project.
I've been working on this for a few years now, but just haven't had the time to finish it off.

Rolling chassis is near complete and restored. New stainless mudguards, chrome stays, correct small petrol tank in cool 'Hippy' paint. New bearings, brakes, paint, forks completely rebuilt new rear shocks and tyres, tubes etc. Genuine Meriden saddle and cover complete with 69 only grab rail.

Frame is TR6C XC 05634 (see last photo of number prior to paint) which dates as December 1968, so '69 model year. I stripped it back and cleaned up all the rough bits of brazing and weld splatter, before paint. New taper roller steering head bearings. I think I fitted new swing arm bearings, if not, the ones in the swingarm must be perfect. New stainless rear mudguard from Ace Classics.

Forks are the correct wide triple clamps unique to 69 and 70 TR6C's, with rigid handlebar mounting. New stanchions, new seals, new Andy Molnar stainless seal holders, new progressive springs, new stainless bearing adjuster and top nuts, new chrome bar clamps, and new stainless bolts, new handlebars, new 1966 grips in black from Burlen fuel systems. New Amal type aluminium levers and new brake cable. New stainless front mudguard, chrome stays etc.

Fuel tank is genuine steel Meriden tank not an Indian copy, needs new paint and the tank badge screws extracted from under the hippy paint scheme. No obvious dents and clean inside.

Rear shocks are Hagons

Wheels are both original Dunlop rims in the correct sizes, with correct Meriden part numbers, chrome isn't show quality but very good for 55 years old. My recollection is both wheels were fitted with new sealed bearings and new brake shoes. Both wheels are shod with new tyres, tubes, rim tapes.

Oil tank, chainguard, side panel, head-steadies, engine plates, footrests, side stand, battery carrier, brake lever are all genuine Meriden bits. Footrests are not painted as I wanted to check they were perfectly straight before getting them painted, so this needs doing with an engine fitted.

I really love the look of the late '60's TR6C bikes but there was, for me, no perfect year, the early ones had the pretty aluminium rear light, which in later years got big ugly reflectors added to the side. Early bikes had the pretty stacked exhaust pipes on the left but these got bigger and uglier as US emissions regulations started biting. But later bikes had the better front twin leader brake and best forks. I also like the look of the later longer saddle, which is genuine Meriden on this bike.
So my solution was to build a bike featuring all the best bits from TR6C's from 1966 to 1970, there didn't seem much point doing that to a matching numbers bike so I purchased the frame decades ago, 1986? from memory from Rockerbox in Farnham who used to import loads of British bike spares from the US. All the black paintwork is new and top quality carried out by Tim Hayes in South Newton who has been doing excellent bike paint since the early '80's.
Most fixings are new stainless or re-plated originals.

Best thing is give me a call on the details below, and I can talk you through it all.
Bike will need registering as I don't have a V5C for the frame, build the engine, add an exhaust system, and electrics. Then you'll have a unique, beautiful and totally rebuilt bike.
If it doesn't sell I might consider, pulling it all apart and selling it off in bits, which would be a shame.
I've added some pictures of complete bikes at the end of the picture roll. These are not what you would be purchasing, they are just for reference. They are in chronological order, the red and silver one is 1964 with the frame that didn't steer too well. The green and white is 1967, pretty as hell but poor front brake. The Blue one is 1968 still very pretty, but the horn is getting bigger, the rear light has ugly side reflectors, twin leading front brake, but poor cable run. The red one is 1969, not sporting huge ugly silencers, ugly horn and ugly rear light, but better late front brake plate / cable run. The green one is 1970, no rear change to 1969 except for rear grab rail, and detachable front engine mount plates.
Cheers
Mike1969 TR6C engine in bits that I have now listed along with this chassis, has put the price up. Lots of work done on engine, all aluminium bits vapour blasted and steel bits re-plated, and barrels re-painted, further photos of internals to follow.
Note there is no damage above the gearbox sprocket, where lots of these engines have broken crankcases from chains snapping.
Original engine number PC 05087 dates from November 1968 so is only one month older than the frame, they left the production line 547 bikes apart.
Crankcases are perfect and matching numbers, crank is good, rods are weight matched pair with new little end bushes and new big end nuts.
Barrels are new painted and good, with pistons. Timing cover just needs a new badge fitted, gearbox outer and chaincase need polishing. Cylinder head needs two helicoils on exhaust rockerbox corner bolts, and an oversize exhaust stub on timing side. Rockerbox shells are new old stock. Cheers Mike Dollittle
