1967 Danbury VW Combi, 1500. Original UK bus complete with original bill of sale, service card and extensive & interesting history from new to present day documented to file. Understood to be one of only two 1967 RHD Danburys existing. Unrepeatable condition throughout – multiple show winner including split screen van of the year. Present ownership since 2005. Volksworld Magazine feature and feature in Dave Eccles book on VW Combi interiors. The bus drives exceptionally well and is testimony to a vehicle that has been meticulously maintained, however, has never been fully apart. The under side of the vehicle is excellent and includes the original front pedal cover tray and both left and right ‘belly pan panels’. A rare and very original walk-through Combi with numerous mechanical upgrades making it fit and ready for European/ world-wide travel.

Recent new clutch, starter motor, exhaust back box and all gasketsPLU 917E first registered on 20. 06. 1967 by The Service Garage Ltd, Chelmsford, and sold to Danbury Conversions. Folowing the conversion to camper, it was purchased by a Mr xxxx in Chelmsford, Essex on 4. 9. 67.
On the 10. 5. 68 Mr Main moved to Bournemouth, Dorset, and had the van sericed at ‘VW Modern Light Cars’ Bournemouth records demonstrate until 28. 10. 68 with 11, 865 miles on the clock. PLU917E was then shipped to Australia, arriving on 10. 12. 68 and was services by ‘VW Agent Friar Bros’ in New South Wales. PLU917 traveled across Austrlia and serviced by ‘Bent Motors’ Alice Springs.
PLU917 returned to New South Wales, serviced at Nambucca Heads N. S. W on 31. 01. 69, at 17, 416 miles having completed 6, 500 miles. From there, PLU917E had been shipped to New Zealand where it covered 3, 500 miles and was serviced at ‘Shelley VW Agent’ in Wellington, New Zealand on 27. 03. 69 at 200, 019 miles. PLU917E had then been shipped back to the UK that year and from 1969 to 1984 clocked up 90, 237 miles. On 05. 01. 1984 PLU917E had been serviced by ‘Modern Light Cars Bournemoth’ now a Lancia garage, and was put in their show rooms on the above date and sold to an unknown gent. PLU917E was not used by this owner, and he kept it until 1986.
PLU917E was next purchased by a Mr xxxx of Poole, Dorset and sold to Mr Jxxxxxx who purchased it 20/ 11/ 86. undertook mechanical work to the original engine that had covered 98, 827 miles. This block ran to 107, 363 miles. A replacement ‘Vege’ short engine had been fitted by ‘URO Automotive’ on 07. 03. 92 and PLU917E runs on this engine to date. Mr B entered PLU917E into numerous shows to inlcude Split Screen Van Club, VW Action, Bug-In, Stanford Hall – the latter three on serval occasions. PLUE917E took multiple places to include wins in 1988 Split Screen Van of The Year and in at Stanford Hall and VW Action in 1990 & 1991 respectively.
PLU917E was sold by Mr xxxxx to Mr D C xxxxx Ashurst, Southanmpton, Hampshire on 05. 12. 1992 with 109, 453 miles on the clock and 2090 miles run on the replacement short engine. Mr xxxxx used PLU917E and entered regular service entries covering 23, 844 miles. Mr C sold PLU917E with 25853 miles to Mr xxxxx, New Forest, Hamphsire on 25/ 07/ 05. Mr xxxx owns PLUE917 to date. During 19 years of ownership PLU917E travelled to France, numerours years including 2007. In 2008 PLU917 travelled across France, Switzerland and toured Italy as far south as Naples. In 2009 PLU917E returned to France, Massive Central & Dorgdogne. In 2016 PLU917E returned to France, Dorgdogne. In 2017 PLU917E toured Southern Ireland, in 2018 PLU917E toured Northen Spain. In 2019 PLU917E toured France to include La Rouchelle. In 2020 PLU917E travelled across nothern Spain and Portugal. In 2022 yet another return to France, Le Loire.
PLU917E is an exceptional vehicle, unreaptable and has been maintained regardless of cost and cherished by the current owner for more than 19 years. The extensive history and maintance file and documentation corresponds giving factual evidence to the exceptional provenence of the vehicle. A truly historic example of VWs iconic Type 1.
