This is a very special TR7. Fully documented from new, it has a huge file of paperwork, including the first invoice from Unipart, the Unipart Supercover Warranty, and every service and parts invoice since, plus every MOT. It has had four owners prior to myself, all of whom have had it professionally maintained, and stored undercover. As a result the bodywork and underside are like new, with no rust or visible welds. The paintwork inside the engine compartment is the original from the factory, as you can see in the pictures. Built in August 1981 and registered in June 1982 it was one of the last built.
In 2000 it was acquired by the Triumph TR Register, who used it as the basis of a series of maintenance articles. They then completely refurbished it, with a respray, new hood, new fuel tank and pipes, new brake parts, new bumpers, new stainless steel exhaust, new TR7 alloy wheels, with the original steel wheels kept for winter use, plus a top end engine overhaul to unleaded specification. The interior may have also been renewed at the time, as it is in perfect condition, with just one mark on the driver’s seat. It was then raffled amongst the Register membership, with the keys handed over to the winner by Triumph rally driver Tony Pond.
The colour is Monza Red, a rare shade for the TR7, but a deep rich red that suits the car superbly.
I bought it two years ago to drive, but then found a genuine TR8, which has meant the TR7 has been little used since. All that my Triumph specialist garage did to it for me to drive it was to change a couple of rubber fuel lines under the bonnet, fit a new choke, balance the carbs and fit a new headlamp relay.
It is tax and MOT exempt, but has always been MOTed, with the latest one till May 2025 with no advisories. The previous advisory this year was because the brakes were fluctuating slightly on test. This was due it being stored for six months with the handbrake on, marking the drums slightly, which cleared on the drive to the follow up MOT.
I am including pictures of the underside, but can arrange for it to be put on a ramp for inspection.
It would be difficult to find such a well documented car in such good condition.
I am asking £8750, which seems a reasonable price but am open to near offers. I bought it because I wanted a TR7, but wanted one that was ready to go, with no work needed, no rust, and professionally maintained.
I was also attracted by the Monza Red, a rare but special colour that Triumph introduced as a nod to Ferrari, plus the complete history and documentation.
